Job summary

Team Power Solutions is seeking a Contracts Estimator – Engineering to support growth by developing accurate project estimates and proposals. You will collaborate with clients, vendors and internal teams to analyze requirements, assess costs and deliver competitive pricing for engineering contracts.

The role focuses on component pricing, labour costs, and efficient proposal preparation, with emphasis on ensuring accurate, timely estimates and strong customer relations.

  • Requires Design or Engineering credentials or a Technologist Diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret documentation, specifications and design drawings to determine material and labour costs for proposals.
  • Use a database to gather and store proposal related data regarding labour costs, materials and production timelines.
  • Gather information from customers, vendors and other sources for pricing. Prepare related pricing for proposals, ensuring adequate and accurate estimates.
  • Gather information from customers regarding their needs/requests.
  • Interprets information and determines potential proposal components for customers’ specific system(s).
  • Prepares estimates for proposals using research and database information on pricing.
  • Works with customers to scope potential work required based on their needs and specific system.
  • Follows up with customers to assess the accuracy and impact of estimates.
  • Provides technical knowledge and oversight for the performance of smaller projects.
  • Assists with the resolution of emerging issues or problems.
  • Ensures the right components and/or alternatives are available.
  • Solid customer relations are established and maintained.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: CONTRACTS ESTIMATOR - ENGINEERING

The Contracts Estimator – Engineering supports business growth by developing accurate and competitive project estimates and proposals. This role collaborates with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to analyze project requirements, evaluate costs, and provide solutions that position TPS for success.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Component Pricing
  • Interprets documentation, specifications and design drawings to determine material and labour costs for proposals.
  • Uses a database to gather and store proposal related data regarding labour costs, materials and production timelines.
  • Gathers information from customers, vendors and other sources for pricing. Prepares related pricing for proposals, ensuring adequate and accurate estimates.
  • Gathers information from customers regarding their needs/requests.
  • Interprets information and determines potential proposal components for customers’ specific system(s).
  • Prepares estimates for proposals using research and database information on pricing.
Customer Relations
  • Works with customers to scope potential work required based on their needs and specific system.
  • Follows up with customers to assess the accuracy and impact of estimates.
Project Coordination
  • Provides technical knowledge and oversight for the performance of smaller projects.
  • Assists with the resolution of emerging issues or problems.
  • Ensures the right components and/or alternatives are available.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Solid customer relations are established and maintained. Follow-ups build on the relationship and understanding of the customer and their needs.
  • Quotes reflect a solid understanding of customers, projects, and related requirements.
  • Pricing assignments are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Proposal estimates are priced appropriately to achieve expected project margins.
  • Labour and material estimates are researched and reasonable.
  • Proposals result in customers awarding work to TPS with a greater than 40% success rate.
  • Required documentation meets expectations.
  • Oversight of assembly projects is helpful, and final products meet customer expectations.
  • The quality of work delivered meets expectations.
  • Issues of concern or importance are communicated to the Manager in a timely manner.
  • Compliance with relevant policies, procedures, standards and practices, legislation and codes meet expectations.
JOB SCOPE

Possesses the electrical industry experience and contracting knowledge required to support assigned elements of contracting services, demonstrating the required professional and technical skills expected for assigned level of experience. Focuses on developing credibility and a reputation for skilled professional work. Requires some guidance and direction but is expected to assume responsibility for a definable piece of work and take on leadership roles and/or responsibilities for tasks or proposals.

EFFORT

Work is high volume, requiring the ability to work under pressure in a fast- paced environment and to deal with competing deadlines. Multi-tasking is the norm. The incumbent is responsible to ensure day to day work is completed accurately, and information provided to others is correct. Working relationships that support collaboration and problem solving are essential for success in this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The incumbent works in an office environment and occasionally in the field/on the shop floor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The position requires Design or Engineering credentials or a Technologist Diploma with a minimum of 1-5 years of industry experience including project management and quotations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
