Job summary

Kunuwanimano Child and Family Services is hiring for a full-time role (up to 6 months) in Ontario. Salary range is $66,593 to $78,865 annually with a 35-hour work week. The position emphasizes First Nations services, counseling, and crisis intervention for children in care.

The incumbent will build relationships with councils and agencies, ensure care plans meet diverse needs, and participate in investigations as required. Closing date is September 17, 2026.

Qualifications

• BSW degree or Social Service Worker program.
• Minimum two years of experience with children in a human services environment.
• Must have a valid G Ontario Driver’s license and be willing to travel.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language considered a major asset.

Responsibilities

• Provides fair, equitable, respectful, and culturally relevant service to First Nations children and families, consistent with Kunuwanimano's vision, mission, and values.
• Maintains positive relationships with First Nations Councils, elders, committees, and applicable agencies.
• Subscribe to the organization values and comply with By-Laws, Policies, and Procedures.
• Establishes effective relationships with a caseload of children, at home or in agency care.
• Provides counseling and crises intervention services to children.
• Reports incidents or suspicions of abuse to the Program Supervisor.
• Participates in investigations as directed.
• Collaborates with Family Services Workers on plans of care for children in temporary care.
• Ensures familial, physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of children are met.
• Coordinates family access visits for children in agency care.
• Develops, implements, and monitors treatment plans per identified needs.
• Supports the Family Services Worker in coordinating customary care and placements.

What you will do in the role

• Ensures that the familial, physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of children are met.
• Coordinates family access visits for children in the care of the Agency.
• Develops, implements, and monitors treatment plans for children in accordance with identified needs.
• Supports the Family Services Worker in coordinating customary care and Agency placements.

What you bring to the table

• BSW degree or Social Service Worker program.
• A minimum of two (2) years of previous experience working with children within a human service environment.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Previous child welfare experience within First Nations communities an asset.
• Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s licence, be willing to travel, able to work flexible hours and provide on-call services when required.
• Must have a $2M auto liability insurance coverage.
• Must produce clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Ability to speak an indigenous language considered a major asset.
• Demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiating, decision making, planning, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.
