Job summary

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is seeking a Continuous Improvement Coordinator to champion lean thinking and lead lean initiatives across complex transit projects in Scarborough, ON. The role supports teams to identify constraints, develop countermeasures, and drive productivity improvements using Last Planner System and other lean methods.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering, 3–5 years in preconstruction/construction, and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in the preconstruction & construction phase of projects.
  • Demonstrated education in lean design and construction preferred.
  • Experience deploying lean design and construction methodologies preferred.
  • Demonstrated application of deploying problem-solving methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Champion lean thinking and behaviors to promote a continuous improvement culture.
  • Lead lean initiatives with project teams.
  • Utilize lean tools and methodologies to resolve problems and improve existing operations and processes.
  • Support collaboration and communication between projects participants, sharing/leveraging best practices and lessons learned.
  • Work with project teams to improve operations, identify constraints, and develop countermeasures, while injecting lean methods as required.
  • Analyze/support improvements to existing work practices and support, waste identification, help establish productivity metrics, and enable team improvement implementation.
  • Perform workplace assessments and work-studies to streamline processes and improve project productivities.
  • Support implementation of Last Planner System® and other lean methods.
  • Act as scribe for select meetings and support the CI Manager in establishing and distributing proper agendas, tracking meeting outputs, and general administration.
  • Develop CI related documents and presentations to be used for education, training, and a library of lean resources.
  • Create, validate, and recommend optimization of processes through process maps, value stream mapping, and change management.

Position Title: Continuous Improvement Coordinator

Who We Are

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Continuous Improvement Coordinator to join our team.

What You Will Do

Experience You Will Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in the preconstruction & construction phase of projects.
  • Demonstrated education (LCI or similar) in lean design and construction preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing lean design and construction methodologies preferred.
  • Demonstrated application of deploying problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience deploying best practices to enable improved project outcomes and high-performing team enablers.
  • Experience with large, complex projects and Joint Ventures with multiple interfaces preferred.
  • Able to engage with team and manage project support outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills – oral and written.
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and under pressure.
  • Ability to see a task from conception to implementation.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Sound computer skills – MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word, SharePoint, P6, Mural / Miro.
  • Experience using Power Apps and Power BI an asset.

Compensation: $75,000- $95,000 annually. The listed salary range reflects potential base pay and considers factors such as experience, education, and training. Each candidate is evaluated individually and offers toward the higher end may be extended to those with exceptional qualifications.
