Job summary

VON Canada is seeking a part-time Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) to provide patient-centered home care across Amherst and surrounding areas. You will travel between clients' homes, supporting daily living, mobility, meals, and safety while collaborating with the healthcare team.

The role requires a CCA certification (or enrolled), a valid First Aid/CPR, a valid driver's license and vehicle, and a clear background check.

Qualifications

  • CCA certification required or in final stages of enrollment
  • PSW/HSW or similar provincial certification considered if eligible for Nova Scotia RPL program
  • Current Standard First Aid or CPR level C required

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to clients in the comfort of their own homes
  • Help develop the client's care plan
  • Assist with personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing)
  • Aid mobility and transfers to ensure safety and comfort
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals; perform light housekeeping
  • Offer respite care to families
  • Monitor and maintain a safe home environment
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams and perform other duties as assigned

About the role

As a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), you'll use your training to provide person-centred care, support daily living, and help clients stay comfortable and independent in their own homes. You'll travel between clients' homes throughout the day, making every visit matter. Bring your skills to where they're needed most!

What we are looking for
  • Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certification
  • PSW, HSW, or similar certifications from another province, relevant certification or work experience, or internationally educated nurses, may be considered if they are currently enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the Nova Scotia CCA Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program
  • Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate
  • Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check required
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Work conditions and physical demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
