Job summary

VON Canada seeks a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) to deliver person-centred care in clients' homes across Nova Scotia. You will support daily living, assist with personal care, mobility, and meal prep, while partnering with healthcare teams to tailor and monitor care plans.

This permanent, part-time (0.75 FTE) position includes professional development, a comprehensive benefits package, a pension plan, travel compensation, and a thorough orientation to help you succeed in community-based care.

Qualifications

  • CCA certification is required to perform duties.
  • PSW/HSW or equivalent credentials may be considered if eligible for RPL.
  • Current Standard First Aid or CPR level C certificate is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to clients in their homes and support daily living.
  • Assist with personal care such as bathing, grooming and dressing.
  • Aid mobility and transfers to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals and perform light housekeeping.
  • Offer respite care to families and monitor home safety.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams and update care plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About the role:

As a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), you'll use your training to provide person-centred care, support daily living, and help clients stay comfortable and independent in their own homes. You'll travel between clients' homes throughout the day, making every visit matter. Bring your skills to where they're needed most!

What you'll do:

What we are looking for:
  • Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certification
  • PSW, HSW, or similar certifications from another province, relevant certification or work experience, or internationally educated nurses, may be considered if they are currently enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the Nova Scotia CCA Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program
  • Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate
  • Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check required
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Funding is also available for the Continuing Care Assistant Program at community colleges across Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Government covers tuition and most program costs for eligible applicants. Please contact your local college for more details.

Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
