Job summary

CBI Home Health in Nova Scotia is seeking a friendly Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) or CCAT to support clients at home and in the community. You’ll work in Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, and nearby areas with a team that values compassion, reliability, and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

  • Must have a CCA certificate or be in progress.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within 12 months.
  • Valid Canadian driver's license and access to a vehicle for community travel.
  • Food Handlers Certificate.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • Registration with NS Continuing Care Assistant Registry.
  • Strong English communication; French or other languages is a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs (16 kg).

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal support with ADLs and/or iADLs in clients' homes and community locations.
  • Assist in administering medications as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Help with grooming, dressing, bathing, meal planning and preparation.
  • Check and record vital signs including temp, BP, pulse and respiration.
  • Support mobility, prescribed exercises and transfers.
  • Collaborate with health care team and caregiver/family.
  • Report safety concerns or abuse to a supervisor as required by law.
  • Communicate needs and changes to the plan of care to the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate progress notes and documentation.

Your role with clients

The Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) provides support with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Independent Activities of Daily Living (iADLs) for individuals with a broad range of care needs in their homes and other community locations.

The CCA collaborates with members of the health care team and the caregiver/family in meeting the needs of individuals to attain an optimal level of independence and well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal support activities with ADLs and/or iADLs to individuals with a broad range of non-complex care needs in their homes and other community locations.
  • Assisting in administering medications to patients as directed by registered healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with daily living activities, such as grooming, dressing, bathing, planning, and preparing meals.
  • Checking and recording patients’ vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates.
  • Help with patient mobility, prescribed exercises, and transfers.
  • Collaborate with members of the health care team and the caregiver/family.
  • Report any client safety concerns or evidence of client abuse or child abuse are required by law to a supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with the client, family and/or caregiver, and coordinators.
  • Communicate the needs, any changes and/or problems concerning clients, particularly any changes which may alter the plan of care to a supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and concise documentation in progress notes of clients and reporting any status changes.

What you will need to be successful

  • Must have a CCA certificate from Seniors and Long-Term Care Nova Scotia or equivalency determined by the Health Association of Nova Scotia (HANS) or working on it.
  • Current Standard Level "C" CPR and First Aid Certificate;
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 12 months;
  • Valid Canadian Driver's license (class 5 or 5N) and access to a reliable vehicle with insurance to travel from home to home within the community: Windsor, Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, Musquodoboit, Dartmouth
  • Food Handlers Certificate
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • Registration with the Nova Scotia Continuing Care Assistant Registry
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills required; the ability to communicate in French or other languages is considered an asset
  • Reliability and strong organization skills
  • Ability to safely lift up to 35 lbs. (16 kg)
