The Opportunity:

McElhanney has an opportunity for Four Construction Surveyors to join our growing team based in Edmonton! Work is on long-term projects on a 14-7 schedule.

Opportunities:

  • Opportunities exist both in Edmonton and remotely (remote staff do not need to be Edmonton based).
  • Numerous local and remote projects are long-term assignments relating to plant site and other resource industry facilities, municipal infrastructure, highways, rail, LRT, bridges, and legal surveys.
  • Potential for field supervisor roles on remote sites.
  • McElhanney has industry-leading capabilities in Surveying, Scanning, RPAS/drone operations, Bathymetry, LiDAR and remote sensing, line locating, and GIS, offering the opportunity to expand knowledge.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required, as well as pre-site access testing as per client requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Field completion of surveys in support of Resource, Construction, and Engineering projects including topographic surveys, layout of alignments, grades, and features; high order control networks, deformation monitoring, earthworks, and legal surveys.
  • Work with the latest instruments and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to understand project objectives, budgets, goals, schedules, and timeframes.
  • Develop processing and calculating skills to broaden survey operation knowledge. Experience with TBC, Microsurvey, and StarNet is an asset, with opportunities to learn.
  • Some projects may involve working alongside McElhanney Site Inspectors and Engineers on-site, providing a chance to learn construction management.
  • Operate a fleet of over 50 RPAS/drones, with training provided for certification and data processing.
  • Manage surveying tasks semi-autonomously where appropriate, supported by a project team.
  • Ensure quality assurance, safety, and policy compliance.

What You'll Bring:

  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field with at least 2 years of experience; higher experience considered if no diploma.
  • Competence in Total stations is essential.
  • Strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and share knowledge.
  • Physical ability to work on varied terrain and lift heavy equipment.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroSurvey, and Trimble Business Centre is an asset.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights is beneficial.
  • Flexibility for remote projects up to 21 days is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Salary Range: $30-$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. This role is safety-sensitive.
