Job summary

Aecon Concessions in Bowmanville, ON, is seeking a Construction Safety Trainer to develop and deliver core safety training for the SMR-X project. The role partners with the Training Manager to identify needs, coordinate delivery, and evaluate program effectiveness on site and in offices.

You will train on Work at Heights, Hoisting, Confined Space, First Aid and related safety programs, maintain records, support Human Performance initiatives, and promote a proactive safety culture across project

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent in Training, Construction or Health and Safety.

What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the construction of Canada’s first Small Modular Reactor on the SMR-X Project. Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase, design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

The Construction Safety Trainer reports to the Training Manager and is responsible for supporting the development, delivery, evaluation, and on-going management of the training programs common to SMR-X project. The individual works with project teams to identify training needs, plan, coordinate and deliver the established core training programs as required by the Project Training Plan, onboarding and training department, project, client and legislative requirements.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Responsible for training project employees on a variety of project and Safety related programs such as, Work at Heights, Heavy Equipment Operation, Hoisting and Rigging, Confined Space Entry, First Aid, Elevating Work Platform, Forklift Operation, Human Performance, Supervisor etc.
  • This training will include all relevant tracking and documentation required for each program
  • Provide timely feedback to management and supervisors in regard to employee competency as it relates to the training programs provided
  • Participate in training team meetings and training-related projects such as the development of new training courses and programs
  • Promote a positive safety culture that supports continuous improvement through active communication, participation and development of skills
  • Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including; inspections, audits, observation and coaching
  • Support Human Performance program activities and act as an advocate for Human Performance
  • Technical resource for jurisdictional Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations and applicable standards
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Training, Construction, and Health and Safety fields
  • Experience in New Build Construction as asset
  • A working knowledge of Provincial OHS Legislation including construction and industrial regulations
  • Experience in facilitating or training large groups using adult education practices and principles (e.g., ADDIE, adult learning theory) an asset
  • Experience with Human Performance programs considered an asset.
  • Train the Trainer Qualifications in programs such as Work at Heights, Confined Space Entry. WHMIS, First Aid, etc., considered an asset
  • A designation such as NCSO would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety and training/facilitating within the construction industry is considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years in implementing and monitoring construction health and safety programs is considered an asset
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office to develop, adjust and manage training programs and develop reports or presentations as required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and positively influence behaviour
  • A team player that accepts and can manage change regularly
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders, if required
  • Comfortable working in various work locations in both field and office

Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000

Individual pay isdeterminedbased on several factors, including work location, education, experience, uniqueskillsand job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
