Job summary

Aecon Nuclear delivers EPC services across a wide range of nuclear projects and, through IPD partnerships, leads complex mechanical scopes. The Project Manager role reports to Sr. PM and ensures readiness, procurement and execution for the SMR-X Mechanical scope with strong leadership and collaboration.

You will drive safety, schedule, and budget adherence while interfacing with clients and internal teams to deliver value and risk-managed outcomes on this strategic project.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of related experience in a nuclear mechanical environment.
  • Post-Secondary degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Detail-oriented with focus on quality.
  • Agility and flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills.
  • EPC contractor experience.
  • Construction field experience in nuclear environment.
  • Mega-project or portfolio experience in nuclear projects.
  • PMI Certification or equivalent knowledge.
  • Leadership experience in high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example to promote a ONE TEAM project-first approach and promote Courage, Transparency, and Accountability.
  • Ensure delivery of all scope in safety, on time, on budget, and in contract compliance.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Sr. Project Manager, Area Lead and client.
  • Manage cost and schedule adherence and identify threats and opportunities.
  • Early identification of threats to schedule, cost or quality.
  • Identify opportunities for schedule and cost reductions within scope.
  • Collaborate with IPD stakeholders to meet project requirements.
  • Drive compensatory actions related to adverse quality trends.
  • Participate in regular meetings and provide guidance to IPD team.
  • Support development and maintenance of the Project Risk Register and risk mitigation.
  • Interface with client on contract changes with support team.
  • Track and expedite internal and external deliverables.
  • Support Construction team on site with technical assistance.
  • Provide feedback to IPD team to foster continuous improvement.

What is the Opportunity

Aecon Nuclear provides a full spectrum of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services, in addition to maintenance and manufacturing services tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the nuclear power industry. Aecon Nuclear’s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts, to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management to the most exacting standards.

Working in the Integrated Project Delivery Model (IPD), with GE Vernova, Atkins Realis and Ontario Power Generation (OPG), Aecon Kiewit Nuclear Partners (Comprised of Aecon and Kiewit working jointly) is responsible for the procurement and construction on the SMR-X Project.

Reporting to the Sr. Project Manager and the Mechanical Area Lead, the Project Manager has the overall accountability for the progression of planning, readiness, procurement and execution activities related to scopes related to the SMR-X Mechanical Scope. This position is the primary point of contact for related scope on the MPEI bundle, and serves to provide leadership, alignment and integration on the SMR-X Mechanical team.

What You'll Do Here
  • Lead by example to ensure a "ONE TEAM" Project-First, collaborative approach for internal, external and IPD facing interactions. Create the context that promotes the values of Courage, Transparency and Accountability on the project
  • Ensure the delivery of all its scope in accordance with safety standards, on time, on budget and compliance with the Contract.
  • Provide regular and accurate progress updates to the Sr. Project Manager, Area Lead and the client for reporting purposes.
  • The Project Manager is accountable for the cost & schedule adherence and management of threats and opportunities, including timely escalation.
  • Early identification of any threats to Project schedule or cost profile, or quality issues.
  • Constantly monitor for schedule and cost reduction opportunities across his scope of works. In particular, the Project Manager should be continuously looking for more efficient methods to complete work.
  • Work collaboratively with the IPD stakeholders to ensure the Project requirements are met and represents the most efficient methods to deliver its Scope.
  • Driving compensatory actions related to adverse quality trends during the project
  • As a Leader, participate in regular meetings and provides advice and support to the other members
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Project Risk Register. Specifically, the Project Manager is responsible for the identification, mitigation and management of related risk items for his/her scopes.
  • Interfacing with the Client on requests for contract changes in close collaboration with the support team.
  • Tracking and expediting internal and external deliverables as part of the contract.
  • Ensure support and technical assistance are deployed to the Construction team during the construction phase on Site.
  • Provide frequent, informal performance feedback to IPD team members, and formal feedback according to home office company policy. Endeavor the feedback to be in person wherever possible.
What You Bring To The Team
  • 5 - 10 years of related experience, ideally in Mechanical in nuclear environment
  • Quantitative, Engineering or Construction Management Post-Secondary Degree.
  • Detail Oriented Approach, Focused on Quality.
  • Agility & Flexibility in a Dynamic Environment.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving Skills.
  • EPC Contractor Experience.
  • Construction Field Experience in nuclear environment
  • Mega-project or Portfolio Projects Experience in nuclear environment
  • Demonstrated Project Management Knowledge (e.g. via PMI Certification).
  • Claims Avoidance and/or Claims Negotiation Experience.
  • Leadership Experience in High-Performing Teams.

Pay Range: $120,000 - $170,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
