Job summary

Third Space Properties seeks an experienced Construction Safety Officer to support safe project delivery. You will work closely with the Site Superintendent, project team and Trade Partners to identify hazards, reinforce safe work practices and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements and company procedures.

You will lead the Health and Safety program, conduct site inspections, coordinate trainings and maintain complete safety records in Procore.

Qualifications

• Certified Construction Safety Officer (BCCSA) or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of construction safety experience on multifamily, residential or mixed-use projects.
• Strong knowledge of Workers Compensation Act, OH&S Regulation and WorkSafeBC requirements.
• Experience overseeing high-risk activities and developing safety documentation (SJs, JHAs, FLHAs).
• Procore or similar digital construction-management system experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead site safety program and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and project requirements.
• Maintain an active site presence, coach workers and partners, elevate safety concerns.

About the Role

Third Space is seeking an experienced, proactive Construction Safety Officer to support safe project delivery. Working closely with the Site Superintendent, project team and Trade Partners, the CSO maintains a visible site presence, identifies and addresses risk, reinforces safe work practices, and ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements, company policies and project-specific procedures. The role also maintains accurate safety records in Procore and helps strengthen a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Site Safety Leadership and Compliance

• Implement and reinforce the Third Space Health and Safety Program and applicable WorkSafeBC and project requirements.
• Maintain an active site presence, monitor work activities, coach workers and Trade Partners, and elevate significant or repeated concerns to the Site Superintendent.
• Participate in construction planning to identify upcoming hazards and confirm appropriate controls before work begins.
• Promote worker participation in hazard assessments, safety meetings and reporting of hazards and near misses.

Inspections, Hazards and Corrective Action

• Conduct and document daily site inspections; identify unsafe conditions, acts and procedural deficiencies.
• Communicate corrective actions, track them to completion and maintain a Daily Safety Journal of significant activities, observations and follow-up.
• Review and support FLHAs, JHAs, Safe Job Procedures and other assessments to ensure hazards and controls are clearly addressed.
• Monitor high-risk work, including fall protection, scaffolding, excavations, mobile equipment, cranes and rigging, confined spaces, energy isolation, hot work and silica exposure.

Orientations, Training and Trade Partner Coordination

• Ensure all workers and Trade Partners complete site orientation before starting work; verify required qualifications, certifications and training records.
• Facilitate or support toolbox talks, safety meetings and site-specific briefings, and identify retraining or competency concerns.
• Review Trade Partner safety documentation, monitor compliance and follow up on deficiencies with the responsible supervisor.

Incident and Regulatory Response

• Respond promptly to incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage and reported safety concerns, and immediately escalation serious matters.
• Lead or assist investigations, identify causes, develop practical corrective actions and verify completion within required timelines.
• Preserve incident scenes when required and assist with WorkSafeBC inspections, orders, regulatory reporting and related documentation.
• Participate in JOHSC activities and track recommendations through to appropriate follow-up.

Documentation, Emergency Preparedness and PPE

• Maintain complete, current and retrievable records in Procore, including orientations, certifications, inspections, hazard assessments, meetings, corrective actions and incidents.
• Prepare safety reports and provide safety performance information to the Site Superintendent and management as required.
• Monitor emergency procedures, postings, muster information, first aid coverage and supplies; participate in drills and document corrective actions.
• Monitor PPE and safety-equipment requirements, availability, condition and proper use.

Qualifications and Experience

• Valid BCCSA Construction Safety Officer certification, or an equivalent acceptable qualification.
• 3–5 years of construction safety experience, preferably in wood-frame multifamily, residential or mixed-use construction.
• Strong knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and WorkSafeBC construction requirements.
• Experience overseeing high-risk construction activities and developing or reviewing SJPs, JHAs, FLHAs and related controls.
• Knowledge of excavation, ground disturbance and underground utility locating, identification and protection.
• Experience with Procore or a comparable digital construction-management and documentation system.
• Strong communication, documentation and incident-investigation skills.
• Valid Advanced First Aid certificate, or valid Intermediate First Aid certificate with a Transportation Endorsement.

Salary Range:

Third Space provides a competitive salary and benefits package as well as many other perks and benefits. The CSO salary range is $75,000 - $95,000 with an annual performance bonus. This role is eligible for health & dental benefits. The exact compensation offered will be dependent upon education & training, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.
