Job summary

Mace is seeking a Construction Inspector in Canada to monitor and inspect construction activities, ensuring compliance with plans, quality standards, safety requirements, and regulations. You will document progress, report non-conformances, and coordinate with contractors to keep projects on track and safe.

The role emphasizes site inspections, reporting, and ensuring materials and workmanship meet project specifications while promoting a safe, efficient work environment across rail/transit

Qualifications

• Experienced construction manager in rail or transit sectors.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, delivery methods, planning, and site logistics.
• Commercial understanding of construction contracts and multiple contract types.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Up to date with key industry trends and technologies.
• Proficient with common office software and project tools.
• Demonstrated decision-making and ownership to solve challenges.
• Capability to deliver results and exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and promote a strong safety culture on site and ensure all activities comply with health and safety requirements.
• Oversee construction delivery through proactive schedule management, ensuring milestones, interfaces, dependencies, logistics, and sequencing are achieved.
• Review contractor submittals, payment requests, work plans, risk assessments, permits, and inspection documentation.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with project delivery teams, contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
• Lead the resolution of construction issues and proactively identify and mitigate construction risks.
• Conduct regular site inspections, monitor progress, track key quantities, workforce levels, and equipment utilization, and prepare progress reports.
• Ensure compliance with IFC documents, project specifications, and onsite standards.
• Manage construction quality by overseeing contractor quality systems, identifying non-conformances, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Monitor environmental protection measures, site safety performance, and third-party impacts throughout construction activities.
• Support project closeout activities, driving snag-free completion and successful delivery of construction works.

The Project:

The Construction Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting construction activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulations. The role involves documenting project progress, identifying and reporting non-conforming work, supporting the implementation of corrective actions, maintaining accurate records and inspection reports, coordinating with contractors and project stakeholders, and verifying that materials, workmanship, and construction practices meet established project and industry standards while promoting a safe and efficient work environment.

You’ll Be Responsible For

You’ll Need To Have

• Experienced construction manager in the rail / transit sector
• Solid understanding of construction methodology, innovative methods of delivery, technology, planning, delivery, site logistics.
• Commercial and basic understanding of construction contract law and an understanding of multiple contract types.
• Good oral, written communication, and presentation skills
• Up to date with key industry/professional trends.
• Proficient in office technology, software, and applications.
• Well-developed decision‑making skills
• The individual will take ownership to identify, solve and overcome challenges, whilst keeping other abreast of developments
• This individual is expected to deliver results, striving to exceeds the clients’ expectations.

Note: The estimated salary for this position is 100,000 - 140,000 CAD. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills and qualifications.
