Job summary

Oak View Group (OVG) is seeking a Concessions Supervisor for the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa. You will oversee concessions stands, bars, and portable food locations, ensure setup, sanitation, and accuracy of cash handling, and assist the Concessions Manager with training and events.

This part-time role requires 2–3 years supervisory experience in food & beverage, and valid Smart Serve and Food Handling certifications.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper setup of all concession locations prior to doors.
  • Oversee opening inventory, assign duties, and ensure sanitation standards.
  • Manage cash distribution and handling procedures.
  • Provide oversight for profitable event execution and staff training.
  • Cover back-up positions to maintain operations and guest service.
  • Maintain a safe, harassment-free work environment.
  • Address safety concerns and hazards with management.
  • Relate safety issues to management promptly.
  • Knowledge of concession locations, equipment and evacuation procedures.
  • Ensure event staff and volunteers understand workplace expectations.
  • Mentor staff and volunteers; promote a positive workplace.
  • Lead by example and provide constructive feedback.
  • Supervise beverage service, including alcohol; check IDs.
  • Record orders in POS and relay to kitchen.
  • Calculate meal costs and handle payments.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Assist management with training, inventory, and events.

Position Summary

The Concessions Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the food & beverage service of guests in the arena at various concessions stands, bars, and portable food & beverage locations. The Concessions Supervisor must be personable and able to work in an ever- changing fast-paced environment. The Concessions Supervisor will assist the Concessions Manager and the rest of the OVG leadership team with projects including training, inventory and special events. The Concessions Supervisor must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work events as scheduled per business need.

This role pays an hourly rate of $19.00-$20.50 CAD.

About The Venue

The Tribute Communities Centre is Durham Region’s premier sports and live entertainment facility and is managed by Oak View Group. The Tribute Communities Centre is home to the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League and hosts a myriad of events, including concerts, circuses, ice skating, and family shows.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper setup of all concession locations prior to doors.
  • Set-up duties may include verifying opening inventory, assigning duties to concession workers (employee/volunteer), ensuring sanitation standards are met, verifying that each location is fully operational, and ascertaining levels of food production based upon projected guest attendance.
  • Assuring proper procedures for distribution and handling of cash.
  • Provide a high level of oversight and operational expertise, resulting in the smooth, efficient, and profitable execution of events.
  • Training new & current employees with regard to property procedure & best practices.
  • Willing to cover/back up any open position to assure the location is fully operational and company standards pertaining to speed of service and guest satisfaction are met.
  • Ensure work environment is safe and free from harassment or discrimination.
  • Immediately address all safety concerns, potential hazards, accidents, or incidents.
  • Relays safety/health issues to management immediately.
  • Working knowledge of all existing concession locations: geographical locations, equipment, evacuation procedures, adjacent employee and guest areas, and facility access.
  • Ensure event staff and volunteers are aware of workplace expectations.
  • Provide ongoing assistance, training, and mentoring to event staff and volunteers.
  • Promote a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative workplace environment by working side-by-side with staff and volunteers.
  • Reinforce procedures and practices through repetition; lead by example and provide ongoing constructive feedback.
  • Responsible for supervising the service of beverages to guests, including alcoholic beverages.
  • Check the guest's ID to verify the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
  • Responsible for assisting in recording a guest’s order and relaying the order to the kitchen via the P.O.S. system.
  • Responsible for observing guests to respond to any additional requests and determine when the meal has been completed.
  • Responsible for computing the cost of the meal and presenting the guest with the check.
  • Accept payments and provide change as necessary.
  • Recommends certain dishes and identifies ingredients or explains how various items on the menu are prepared.
  • Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
  • Show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance.
  • Assures that the location equipment is operable and clean prior to the start of the event.
  • Responsible for recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals.
  • Enforces all company policies and procedures.
  • Assists the management team with projects including training, inventory, and special events.
  • All other duties as assigned by the managers and supervisors.
Qualifications
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in a supervisory capacity in a food & beverage environment.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner that focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Possess valid food handling certificate and Smart Serve Certification.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly.
  • Ability to calculate basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) as they relate to POS cash/credit transactions, cash reconciliation, and product inventory.
