Job summary

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is seeking a Computer Systems Technician - GIS to support the GIS program and enterprise environment in Whistler, BC. You will perform data management, spatial analysis, and support GIS-enabled workflows across departments.

Qualified candidates will have a GIS degree or diploma and at least two years of related experience, with strong ArcGIS skills and familiarity with geodatabases; a BC driver's license is required.

Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The Information Technology (IT) department of the Corporate Services and Public Safety division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Computer Systems Technician - GIS. Reporting to the GIS Supervisor, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly, starting as soon as possible.

The main responsibilities are to support the administration and ongoing development of the RMOW’s GIS program and enterprise environment. With guidance from the GIS Supervisor, this position facilitates the analysis, management, organization, interpretation and dissemination of spatial information and works collaboratively with staff across the organization to develop GIS-enabled solutions that support municipal operations and business processes. The role performs data management and spatial analysis and supports enterprise GIS systems, applications, automated workflows, integrations and field data collection.

Qualified candidates have completed a degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science or a related discipline and have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in a similar GIS-related role. Experience supporting municipal government is preferred. Candidates have a strong understanding of GIS principles and mapping systems, with training and experience using current Esri ArcGIS software, managing Esri geodatabases and working with technologies such as ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro. Experience supporting web and mobile GIS applications, automation and integration using tools such as FME and Python is desirable, along with awareness of GIS and data technology trends and best practices.
