Job Description
This remote role is a temporary assignment for 16-18 months through September 2026. Benefits are included. Talent must live near the Ottawa site to visit once a month for trainings and team meetings.
The CBSA Canada Compliance Specialist II will collaborate with agencies such as the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Fisheries and Oceans Canada (FOC), Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Natural Resources Canada (NR), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), and Transport Canada (TC).
What Will You Do?
- Ensure compliance with Canadian customs laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Lead all aspects of import and export activities, including classification, valuation, and country of origin determination.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to ensure timely clearance of shipments.
- Collaborate with teams such as procurement, logistics, and finance to ensure accurate and complete customs documentation.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments.
- Stay updated on changes in regulations and communicate updates to relevant teams.
- Resolve customs-related issues or disputes efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with customs regulations.
- Mentor and support internal teams on customs compliance matters.
- Establish strong partnerships with Canadian customs authorities and other government agencies.
- Stay informed about international trade agreements and programs impacting customs compliance.
- Analyze customs data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
- Perform transactional activities related to customs regulations.
- Coordinate with other Canada Customs team members on activities like process development, risk evaluation, and review of products/services under GAC regulations. Manage other duties as assigned.
How Will I Get Here?
Requirement Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in customs compliance, focusing on Canadian regulations.
- Validated understanding of Canadian customs laws, including tariff classification, valuation, origin determination, and documentation.
- Strong knowledge of USMCA, CETA, and WTO regulations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects.
- Must live near Ottawa to visit the site monthly for trainings and meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Post-secondary diploma in Customs/Border Services or International Trade.
- Technical or scientific background.
- Certifications like CCS or CTCS are a plus.
- Experience in delivering training is preferred.
