The Community Worker is required to work weekends, day shifts from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Site Supervisors, the Community Worker works proactively and responsively with tenants and staff at 65 Dundas St E to ensure the operational success of the supportive housing program and to support tenants in maintaining their housing and improving their quality of life.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support health and safety by adhering to housing rules and regulations
  • Maintain a presence at the front desk and monitor community activities
  • Work with the team to ensure community safety
  • Support programming and daily support needs of tenants
  • Adhere to building rules and remind tenants and guests of their responsibilities
  • Foster communication and provide excellent customer service
  • Build rapport, support, and advocate for tenants, including those with health challenges and substance use issues
  • Develop relationships with community agencies
  • Participate in case conferences
  • Perform administrative duties like answering calls and managing intake packages
  • Provide support, counseling, and crisis management as needed
  • Arrange home visits and accompany tenants to appointments
  • Advocate for tenants and inform them of their rights
  • Monitor and collect data on community programs
  • Maintain case notes and tenant files
Qualifications
  • Experience in Housing Support Work, Shelter Work, Harm Reduction, or Mental Health Support
  • Degree or diploma in social services or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years of related experience in supportive housing or crisis support
  • Knowledge of social issues like homelessness, mental illness, and substance use
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act is an asset
  • Ability to apply harm reduction principles
  • Comfort observing drug injection behaviors
  • Strong advocacy and communication skills
  • Proficiency in English; other languages are an asset
  • Knowledge of community resources and programs
  • Self-directed, independent, and team-oriented
  • Good judgment, flexibility, and sensitivity
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • First Aid & CPR certification and Crisis Prevention training are assets
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada and ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations
