Are you passionate about infrastructure and its impact on communities? We are currently looking for a Community Relations Coordinator to join Aecon Group Inc. The Community Relations Coordinator serves as a key liaison with the Construction management team/on-site construction crews, and members of the public.

The Community Relations Coordinator will work with the Communications team to develop and execute initiatives that support Aecon's community benefits, community relations and communications programs. This position reports to the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.

What You'll Do Here:

  1. Collaborate with the projects subcontractors and Aecon's Human Resources department to support recruitment efforts targeting local communities and equity-deserving groups for apprenticeships and professional roles within the project.
  2. Work with community organizations and workforce development agencies to facilitate the recruitment process.
  3. Conduct information sessions and workshops for job seekers from local communities and equity-deserving groups, focusing on employment opportunities in the construction sector.
  4. Identify business opportunities to engage local businesses in the project.
  5. Partner with workforce agencies to plan, organize, and deliver employment-related information sessions.
  6. Assist with tracking and monitoring the workforce development plan, including preparing reports and presentation materials as required.
  7. Build and maintain relationships with residents, business owners, educational institutions, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), and other stakeholders impacted by the project.
  8. Liaise with the construction management team and on-site staff to understand and effectively communicate the type, sequencing, and duration of construction activities and their potential impacts on the public and stakeholders.
  9. Monitor construction schedules and provide real-time updates to the Communications team to ensure the development of accurate and timely public communication materials.
  10. Support adherence to notification requirements with the construction management team and on-site crews.
  11. Work with the client to identify, track, and resolve construction-related issues affecting the public, particularly those in the immediate construction area.
  12. Attend coordination and working group meetings to identify opportunities for public engagement and integrate communication activities with construction schedules.
  13. Maintain a detailed events calendar to assist the Communications Team in planning consistent, effective, and integrated communication, stakeholder relations, and community engagement activities.
  14. Plan and execute public meetings, open houses, tele-townhalls, and community events, ensuring a consistent, effective, and positive experience for all participants.
  15. Develop presentations for public meetings and open houses as needed.
  16. Assist in the development and maintenance of business signage for the project.
  17. Support on-site incidents and crisis communications by providing timely updates to the Communications team.
  18. Respond to public inquiries (in-person, by telephone, or via email) regarding design and construction activities, including construction schedules, transit and traffic impacts, and community meetings.
  19. Track inquiries and provide regular updates on metrics.
  20. Staff the Project Community Office on a rotating schedule with the other Community Relations representative to address face-to-face community inquiries as required.
  21. Support the team and the client in developing and maintaining communication and public engagement efforts.
  22. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Communications and Public Engagement Lead.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • A post-secondary diploma in communications or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of construction trade unions and employment sector.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Community Relations or Corporate Communications and a good understanding of communicating about transit projects or construction-related projects.
