Job Description

Accountabilities:

Programming

  • Assist with ensuring that ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and applied to all outreach program initiatives and where applicable link community members to the church family and church programs wherever possible.
  • Network with community agencies to aid in program growth potential.
  • Develop trusting relationships, provide support, assistance, and encouragement to clients, and respond to concerned citizen calls.
  • Facilitate life skills programs such as but not limited to Anger Management.
  • Make necessary referrals to shelter, health care, professional counseling, spiritual and religious care, and other relevant support.
  • Conduct initial intake assessment to determine immediate needs and appropriate support.
  • Participate in other programs provided by the Community and Family Services as required.

Administration

  • Assist with data analysis for program, recording statistics, writing, and submitting reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of client information on The Salvation Army’s Client Management System (Linked-2 -Feed) while maintaining confidentiality and providing program, logs of activities, operational and statistical reports as required in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for abiding by The Salvation Army’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures and work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.
  • Ensure compliance with all COVID-19 protocols and requirements.

Perform Other Duties As Required.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal

  • Corps officer, volunteers, staff.
  • Attend and participate in individual, team ministry unit meetings.

External

  • Community (donors, participants, community agencies)

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position reports directly to the Program Director
  • This role does not have any direct reports but may supervise up to 15 volunteers throughout the year in various programs.

Financial And Materials Management

  • This role has no financial budget allocation or expenditure authority.

Working Conditions

  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 5 hours per week
  • This job requires the ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. and reach, bend, stoop frequently and or

work in a standing position for long periods of time

Normal hours of work: Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes ½ hour unpaid meal break.

The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

Education And Experience Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a 2-year Community College diploma or certificate preferably in Social Services and/or Psychology.
  • A working knowledge of mental health and addiction issues.

Experience And Skilled Knowledge

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons, individuals with mental health and addiction issues and a variety of social service programs.
  • Some experience with community programming in a church setting would be an asset.
  • Some supervisory experience.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of local resources for Mental Health and Addictions services, housing, income support and other support systems.

Note: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics
  • Ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must demonstrate strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to provide/obtain a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
