Job summary

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) seeks a full-time Community Nurse within its Health & Wellness Department in Dauphin, MB. The role delivers care rooted in the MMF health approach, centered on primary health care, community development, and harm reduction for Métis Citizens.

Responsibilities include preventing injuries and diseases, promoting health in Métis communities, reducing inequities, and delivering services across the region while respecting diversity and encouraging

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing is required; preferred: PHAC Skills Enhancement for Public Health Program content module certificate, a Canadian Community Health Nurses certification, or related master's level course.
  • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba registration required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • International Society for Travel Medicine Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent, relevant experience in public health, primary care/public health, population health promotion or community development.
  • Experience working with Indigenous community in a clinical setting is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture and MMF programs and services is an asset.
  • Ability to travel, Manitoba driver's license with access to reliable vehicle.

Job description

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full time Community Nurse position within our Health & Wellness Department located in Dauphin, MB. The Community Nurse will provide care that is consistent with the MMF’s health approach that is rooted in an understanding of the broad determinants of health and the principles of primary health care, community development, and harm reduction specific to Métis Citizens.

  • Apply appropriate strategies to prevent injuries, chronic and communicable diseases, and other Clinical services as they are developed;
  • Address environmental issues and promote health and wellness to Métis Citizens and their families;
  • Strive to improve the health of all people and reduce inequities among populations by addressing determinants of health and promote equitable health outcomes;

Skills and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. Additionally, at least one of the following is preferred: successful completion of a Public Health Agency of Canada’s Skills Enhancement for Public Health Program content module certificate, a Canadian Community Health Nurses certification, and successful completion of a related course at a master level;
  • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba registration required;
  • CPR certification required;
  • International Society for Travel Medicine Certification preferred;
  • Minimum 1 year of recent, relevant experience and demonstrated competency in public health, primary care / primary health care, population-level health promotion or community development is required;
  • Experience working with an Indigenous community in a clinical setting is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
