Job summary

Edmonton Public Library seeks a Library Assistant for the Sprucewood Branch. The role supports public service, helps patrons find materials, assists with digital resources, and delivers programs for all ages, including storytimes and tech help.

You will join EPL's Public Services Department and require a diploma in Information Management/Library Technology or a related field (or an undergraduate degree), plus at least one year in a library or customer-service setting.

Qualifications

  • Information Management/Library Technology diploma or related diploma, or an undergraduate degree.
  • Minimum of one year's work experience in a library or customer service-focused environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, web-based services and other applications.
  • Experience in providing reference services and readers' advisory services preferred.
  • Experience in developing and presenting classes and events for customers of all ages; emphasis on young children.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with learning English resources and service information.
  • Lead preschool storytime and other children's programs.
  • Help customers download eBooks and use digital devices.
  • Answer questions for patrons of all ages and connect them to resources.
  • Visit schools, daycares and community organizations to promote library services.
