Job summary

Lac La Ronge Indian Band in Saskatchewan seeks a compassionate Community Health Representative to support local health initiatives, advocate for families, and empower community members to make healthy decisions. You will work with health staff, coordinate clinics, and help deliver health education while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and honoring Indigenous communities.

A Grade 12 education and CHR certificate are preferred; Cree language skills are an asset, and a valid driver's

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 completion required; CHR certificate or related health-care certificate preferred.
  • Combination of Education and Experience may be considered.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • First Aid & CPR and Safe Food Handling certificates required or willing to obtain.
  • Experience working with First Nations Communities is an asset.
  • Ability to speak/understand Cree is an asset.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting health staff in delivery of health care services and contributing to the health team through health advocacy, health promotion and illness prevention;
  • Act as a liaison between community members and LLRIBHS staff and health programs;
  • Assist in the delivery of health programs by obtaining consents, transporting community members, booking clinics, participating in community health events;
  • Carry out health promotion programs by planning workshops, in-service sessions, community education events and developing public awareness materials.

About the facility:

LLRIBHS promotes health in our communities for the wellbeing of all members. We provide accessible, high quality health services and programs. Together with others, we work to build capacity and educate as we address both acute needs and determinants of health.

About the position:

Working 7.5-hour shifts, overtime may be required. The CHR aims to empower community members to make healthy decisions, through demonstrating, teaching and providing support and encouragement with a focus on addressing health needs of the community

Duties:
  • Assisting health staff in delivery of health care services and contributing to the health team through health advocacy, health promotion and illness prevention;
  • Act as a liaison between community members and LLRIBHS staff and health programs;
  • Assist in the delivery of health programs by obtaining consents, transporting community members, booking Child Health Clinics, participating in community health fairs, events and activities;
  • Carry out health promotion programs by planning workshops, in-service sessions, community education events and developing public awareness materials;
Qualifications:

Suitable candidates will have a minimum Grade 12; Community Health Representative certificate or related health care certificate; Combination of Education and Experience may be considered; Basic computer skills; Certified First Aide & CPR and Safe Food Handling Certificate required or willing to obtain; Excellent organizational skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; Ability to speak/understand Cree is an asset; Experience working with First Nations Communities is an asset; Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
