CMHA Peel Dufferin Branch is seeking a Community Health Ambassador- Relief to support outreach, education, and referrals for mental health and addiction resources. The role is based out of Peel Dufferin and is on-site/community-based, with a 12-month contract term.

You will deliver culturally relevant sessions, promote services, and coordinate with partners to connect clients to care, while upholding equity and anti-oppressive principles.

Competenze

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline; Social Services preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with vulnerable populations; community outreach experience preferred.
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL, is considered an asset.

We are looking for a Community Health Ambassador- Relief to join our team!

Under the general guidance of the Program Manager, the incumbent will provide culturally specific community outreach, education, presentations, workshops and promote mental health and addiction awareness and supports within the Mississauga community and facilitate information and referrals to primary care and other community resources.

Status: Contract, Relief; 12-month term; Note, this posting is for an active vacancy

Salary: $32.01 - $37.66 hourly (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)

Location: This position is based out of our 60 West Drive office.Due to the nature of this program, this role is on-site and/or community based.

What You Will Do:
  • Organize Mental Health and Wellness information sessions, distribute resources through tabling sessions/events, presentations at local community venues, religious venues and businesses
  • Dispel culturally specific myths/misinformation and address stigma through culturally and language specific education and information sessions
  • Provide immediate service navigation and support to coordinate access to community resources, including primary care, mental health and addiction services, and social supports
  • Provide culturally specific group facilitation, including psychoeducation, support/recovery groups, and focus groups
  • Develop and initiate relationships with community members based on trust, respect, and honesty
  • Consult, advocate and liaise with community resources and agencies to assist clients and families to access necessary services
  • Work in collaboration with community partners and other locally driven population health model
  • Lead Agencies to promote mental health supports and education
  • Identify trends in community engagement and recovery frameworks
  • Gather, compile and report on common and systemic barriers to accessing mental and physical health supports
  • Maintain appropriate record-keeping/documentation and client files, statistical and outcome measurement tools as required by CMHA Peel Dufferin and funders
  • Provide input into ongoing service enhancement, program development and evaluation

What You Need to Join Our Team:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline; Social Services preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with vulnerable populations
  • Experience working in community outreach setting is preferred
  • Experience working with community-based mental health and social services an asset.
  • Demonstrated strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education
  • Demonstrated understanding of social determinants of health and impact on vulnerable communities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging.
  • Sensitivity to people from different socio-economic backgrounds with an equity lens.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework.
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report.
