  • Engage in agency performance management, ongoing professional development and mandatory training; participate in supervisory processes.

Relief Health Promoter

Location: Peterborough and throughout the Four Counties Status: Relief Posting#: RLF-HP-10-26

Wage: $100-$200 per session, dependent on the level of the session as per Relief Health Promoter Grading Tool

Under the direction of the Manager of Community Engagement and Education, this position delivers pre-approved public education/promotion trainings. The education may include general information about mental illness, stigma and mental wellness management. Audiences will most often include (but not limited to) students, non-profit groups, church/religious groups and community groups. Sessions may be delivered either virtually or in-person, based upon audience request and trainer availability. Sessions may occur both inside and outside of traditional office hours. This work may include some evenings and weekends.

Please note that as a relief position, you will still be required to work your full hours in your home position. Please discuss this with your current manager when considering your application.

The Relief Health Promoter role consists of three distinct levels. The level assigned allows the Relief Health Promoter to deliver pre-approved education sessions at that respective level. Rating as a Level 3 Relief Health Promoter allows for the delivery of all Level 3 and below sessions. Level 2 Relief Health Promoter allows for the delivery of all Level 2 and below sessions. Level 1 Relief Health Promoter allows for the delivery of all Level 1 and below sessions. Successful candidates will receive their Level based upon the Relief Health Promoter Grading Tool.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
  • Public Education and Certified Training
    • Deliver public education to a wide variety of audiences at various levels of understanding, mental health background and awareness (schools, community groups, and not-for-profit organizations).
    • Represent Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R.) at public information and workplace health fairs and events, providing information on mental illness, local resources to support mental wellness and the menu of programs and services available through C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R.
  • Documentation
    • Determine appropriate baseline and outcome data to be collected from program participants and activities and identify resources to facilitate the collection of such data.
    • Collect, analyze and report program evaluation data, identifying strengths, weaknesses, challenges and pressures.
    • Ensure that all document and programming statistics around funding source requirements is accurately documented and recorded.
  • Performance Management and Professional Development
    • Participate cooperatively in the agency performance management process/system
    • Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices, current research, policies and procedures
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training
    • Actively engage and participate in supervisory process
  • Health and Safety – Worker Responsibilities
    • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations and all organizational health and safety requirements and procedures to ensure the health and safety of clients, staff/colleagues, volunteers and students
  • Client Safety
    • Adhere to C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. client safety programsincluding program policies as well as infection control and prevention procedures. In partnership with clients, family members, and fellow staff, maintain open lines of communication to assist the organization in identifying and achieving quality outcomes for client safety. Report client safety incidents and suggested improvements to manager ordelegate.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Attend, participate in team/staff meetings, and all-staff meetings as required
    • Participate in agency quality improvement activities, e.g. accreditation projects, committees, special events, etc.
    • Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level
    • Participate in external committees as required

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
A. Education and Training

Successful completion of post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in a relevant field is required

Assets with regard to this position:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Social Work, Psychology, Health Promotion)
  • Master’s degree in relevant field (Social Work, Psychology, Health Promotion)
  • Current Certification as a trainer in ASIST, Living Life to the Fullest, SafeTALK and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
B. Related and Relevant Experience
Mandatory Experience and Knowledge
  • Relevant experience in the delivery of mental health education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health, mental illness, stress management, anti-stigma, workplace wellness, mental health system issues and health promotion principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the community and its resources, in order to provide assistance to community members to help navigate through mental health and social service systems
  • Demonstrated ability to foster ongoing, continuous mental health awareness within the community
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, as well as flexibility and ability to meet multiple competing demands outside of regular working hours
  • Professional, approachable and engaging communication and presentation skills; ability to effectively use creativity to enhance learning opportunities for audiences
  • Good knowledge of technology related to presentations and the ability to troubleshoot technology issues while in the community
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a high performing team
  • Competency the use of all Microsoft Programs
  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate a commitment to the values, objectives and vision of the agency.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience supporting individuals and/or their families with mental health concerns
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorder, substance use concerns, and dual diagnosis would be an asset
  • Knowledge of current mental health systems and available access points
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal).
  • Intermediate to advanced minus French proficiency
  • Lived expertise with a mental health concern or addiction, either personally or with a family member is an asset
  • Experience/knowledge of the mental health services system

Working Conditions:
  • Works in an office setting as well as in the community at various public events, which may include inside and outside events, across the four counties, in various types of weather and conditions
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends supporting public events, and may include roles outside of the regular job duties (i.e. information fairs)
  • Some lifting may be required (up to 25 pounds)
  • Some evening, overnight, weekend work may be required.
  • Work indirectly with individuals with a with serious mental illness and/or dual diagnosis and/or addictions
