Job summary

Western Development Museum in Saskatoon is seeking a motivated events and public programs coordinator for a 12-month term position. You will plan, deliver, and facilitate a broad range of programming for diverse audiences, while engaging volunteers and community partners to enhance public visitation.

The role requires strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills, plus experience in large-scale event planning and public programming development.

Qualifications

  • Requires a relevant undergraduate degree or certificate and 1–3 years of experience.
  • Interest in Saskatchewan heritage and knowledge of local history is preferred.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, delivers, and facilitates programming for public audiences focused on Saskatchewan's diverse histories.
  • Leads planning and execution of WDM events.
  • Creates engaging public programming, events, and partnerships to boost visitation.
  • Builds relationships with community and organizations supporting the Museum's work.
  • Trains and oversees staff and volunteers involved in public programming and events; schedules shifts.
  • Leads content creation for social media promoting events and activities.
  • Coordinates the Museum's involvement in community outreach and partnerships.
  • Assists in creating funding proposals, including fundraising and sponsorships.
  • Opens and closes the Museum as scheduled.
  • Performs general office duties as assigned.

Application Information

General Description: This position supports the WDM in achieving its public trust responsibilities through the planning and delivery of comprehensive and engaging events and public programs for diverse audiences, facilitating volunteer engagement, and developing meaningful local and provincial partnerships. This is an approximately 12-month term position, with possibility of extension or becoming permanent.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, plans, delivers, and facilitates a broad range of programming for public audiences focused on Saskatchewans diverse histories.
  • Leads the planning and execution of WDM events.
  • Generates effective and creative ways to enhance public visitation and engage the community through public programming, events, and partnerships.
  • Establishes and fosters relationships with the community and local/provincial organizations that support the work of the Museum, including participation in events and public programs.
  • Trains and oversees staff and volunteers performing work pertaining to public programming and events. Schedules volunteer shifts for assigned activities.
  • Leads content creation for social media initiatives related to the promotion of events, programs, and Museum activities.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the WDM Saskatoons involvement in community outreach.
  • Seeks out and assists in creating proposals for funding in support of events and programming activities, including fundraising and sponsorships.
  • Opens and closes the Museum when scheduled.
  • General office and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills: The position requires a relevant undergraduate degree or certificate and a minimum of 1-3 years of pertinent experience. Interest in and knowledge of Saskatchewan heritage. Experience with large-scale event planning and execution is essential. Previous knowledge and experience in public/interpretive program development are assets. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
