Reporting to the Manager of Community & Neighbourhood Development, the Community Development Coordinator initiates and maintains positive and effective relationships and networks with internal and external departments, community groups and other external organizations to advance strategic priorities of the City of Mississauga Recreation & Culture Division and provides leadership for the development and implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives that keep Mississauga residents healthy, active and connected to the community.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as a primary point of contact/liaison for residents, community groups and other external stakeholders to navigate and access information and support from the City.
  • Provide leadership and support for the administration of key policies and procedures including the Community Group Registry Programand the Culture and Community Grant Programs.
  • Provide leadership and support for the development of agreements with community groups.
  • Provide leadership and support for outreach and community engagement activities.
  • Conduct environmental scans, needs assessments and other activities to inform program/service development and continuous improvement.
  • Plan and implement capacity building and networking opportunities for staff , volunteers and community groups.
  • Facilitate relationships and collaboration between external organizations, community centre teams and other City departments.
  • Provide leadership for project teams including peers, part time staff and volunteers.
  • Develop, implement and monitor project plans and budgets and manage expenditures.
  • Prepare and coordinate project charters, meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Prepare briefing notes, corporate reports and other communications.
  • Provide leadership and support for the development of grants and funding applications and reports.
  • Develop and maintain communication and resource materials.
  • Track and monitor key performance indicators.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree with a focus on recreation, sport administration, arts and culture administration, community development or otherrelated field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience aligned with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Knowledge and experience working with local agencies, community groups and volunteers.
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong administration, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Regular sensory listening skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment and interest in broadening your experience is desired.
  • Specialized training or experience related to non-profit governance is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office. Experience with City Software such as ActiveNet,SharePoint, Survey Monkey Apply and social media is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid Certification and High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (or willing to obtain within the first 3 months of start date).
  • Requires flexibility of work locations including the ability to work effectively from home and/or community locations across the City (e.g. community centres, parks) in all weather conditions.
  • On occasion, be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate work with community stakeholders and support community events.

Hourly Rate/Salary:$89,464.00 - $119,286.00
