Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin - Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker (1 position) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. These positions will serve the community of Pelican Narrows, and will be based out of Pelican Narrows.

Reporting to the Community Advocacy Supervisor, the Support Worker is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families who are at risk of or involved with CFS. Community Advocacy functions as a member of interagency services supporting children, youth, and families, comprising local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social, and ICFS, along with other service providers in the communities.

The Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker is a permanent full-time position. PBCN is willing to train the successful candidate; the person selected will be supported by the Community Advocacy Supervisor and the Director of Community Advocacy.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advocacy support services for children, youth, and families under the guidance of the Chief and Council, respecting Woodland Cree culture, language, values, and way of life in service delivery.
  • Uphold and strengthen the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
  • Support children, youth, and families to exercise their rights under relevant laws.
  • Promote equality for children and youth and support family unity.
  • Connect community members with lands, languages, cultures, practices, customs, traditions, ceremonies, and knowledge of their community.
  • Engage with individuals in a way that empowers them towards a holistic lifestyle.
  • Support children, youth, and families in CFS matters, including administrative and court proceedings.
  • Complete advocacy plans, identify supports, make referrals, assist with Jordan's Principle and Post Majority Care applications, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Establish relationships with community service providers and authorities, make referrals, and host community engagement meetings.
  • Attend Community Advisory Committee meetings, prepare reports, and complete monthly end reports.
Qualifications
  • Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, or related experience; on-the-job training available.
  • Knowledge of PBCN community programs, government agencies, and Cree culture.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation including Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Education Act, and Health Services Act.
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma; two years of social services experience preferred.
  • Eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
Other Requirements
  • Clear Police Records Check - Vulnerable Sector and Child Welfare Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and clean Drivers Abstract.
  • Ability to accommodate and support a barrier-free work environment.
