Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin - Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker (1 position) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. This position will serve the community of Deschambault Lake and will be based out of Deschambault Lake.

Reporting to the Community Advocacy Supervisor, the Support Worker is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families who are at risk of or involved with CFS. Community Advocacy functions as a member of interagency services supporting children, youth, and families, including local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social, and ICFS, along with other service providers in the communities.

This is a permanent full-time position. PBCN is willing to train the successful candidate, who will be supported by the Community Advocacy Supervisor and the Director of Community Advocacy.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advocacy support services for children, youth, and families.
  • Uphold and strengthen the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
  • Support children, youth, and families to exercise their rights under relevant laws.
  • Promote equality, preserve family unity, and connect community members with lands, languages, cultures, and traditions.
  • Engage with individuals to empower them towards holistic lifestyles.
  • Support children, youth, and families in CFS-related matters, including administrative and court proceedings.
  • Develop advocacy plans, identify supports, make referrals, and assist with Jordan's Principle and Post Majority Care applications.
  • Ensure proper documentation, record-keeping, and confidentiality of files.
  • Establish relationships with community-based service providers and authorities, make referrals, and participate in community meetings and advisory committees.
  • Complete monthly reports and other administrative tasks.
Qualifications
  • Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, or related field preferred; or two (2) years of direct community services experience with on-the-job training provided.
  • Knowledge of PBCN programs, government agencies, and relevant legislation (Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Education Act, Health Services Act).
  • Respect and understanding of Woodland Cree culture, language, and traditions.
  • Knowledge of Jordan's Principle, Post Majority Care, and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal decisions.
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma and two (2) years of experience in social services capacity.
Other Requirements
  • Clear Police Records Check - Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Clear Child Welfare Check.
  • Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and a clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Eligibility to be a registered member of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
