Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin - Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Supervisor (CAS) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. This position will serve the community of Pelican Narrows and will be based out of Pelican Narrows.

Reporting to the Director of Community Advocacy, the CAS is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families who are at risk of or involved with CFS. CAS functions as a member of interagency services supporting children, youth, and families, including local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social and ICFS, and other service providers in the communities.

The position supervises support staff consisting of Community Advocacy Support / Jordan Principle Workers. The Community Advocacy Supervisor is a permanent full-time position.

Support Functions

Reporting to the Director of Community Advocacy, the Community Advocacy Supervisor (CAS) is responsible for:

  • Providing advocacy services for children, youth, and families in collaboration with community-based interagency programs such as PBCN Health, Education, PBCFSI, MSS, and others.
  • Upholding and strengthening the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
  • Supporting children, youth, and families to exercise their rights under relevant laws.
  • Promoting equality, family unity, and connecting families with lands, languages, cultures, practices, customs, traditions, ceremonies, and knowledge of their community.
  • Engaging individuals in a way that empowers them towards a holistic lifestyle.
  • Supporting children, youth, and families in CFS matters, including administrative and court proceedings.
  • Assisting in developing the WMP Community Advocacy Program.
  • Supervising and supporting Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Workers and post-majority care services.
  • Completing intake, maintaining records, case files, contact notes, and case conferences, ensuring confidentiality and record security.
  • Identifying training needs of staff.
  • Liaising with the Director of Community Advocacy and Legal Counsel for Family Law representation when required.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with community service providers and authorities, making referrals as needed.
  • Hosting community engagement and information meetings.
  • Attending Community Advisory Committee meetings and preparing reports.
  • Completing month-end reports.
Qualifications
  • Experience in management and supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation community programs and services and other government agencies.
  • Respect for and understanding of Woodland Cree culture, traditions, values, and language.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Education Act, and Health Services Act.
  • Experience with a child-centered, community approach, including holistic services, customs, and traditions.
  • Must provide a clear Child Welfare Check.
  • Must hold a Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and a Clear Drivers Abstract.
  • Eligibility to be a registered member of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
  • Preferred: Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, or related fields.
  • Minimum two years of direct experience in a Social Services setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with online meetings.
