Job summary

Langara College is seeking a Communications Advisor to plan, implement, and execute integrated communications with a focus on internal communications and campus initiatives. You will work with design and digital teams on campaigns, publications, media relations, events, web content, and digital projects.

  • Advanced diploma in marketing/communications or equivalent.
  • Minimum four years of recent related experience in marketing communications including strategy and planning, project management, client services, writing/editing, events coordination, and internal communications in a Mac environment.
  • Experience in higher education marketing or technology marketing is an asset.
  • Knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing strategies and tactics.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic marketing advice to internal clients to help achieve objectives.
  • Oversees complex marketing projects from kickoff to delivery, managing schedules, approvals, and budgets.
  • Writes/edits news releases, publications, web content, and social media posts.
  • Develops visual identity systems within Langara’s master brand when approved.
  • Ensures compliance with CASL, FIPPA, PIPA, copyright, and protection of marks.
  • Researches vendors and manages production to stay within budgets.
  • Coordinates development, production, and distribution of printed materials and campaigns.
  • Provides writing/editing support to instructional and administrative departments as required.
  • Develops and executes marketing plans for events and convocation, welcome week, and employee recognition.
  • Uses analytics to assess outcomes and reports to clients; storyboard scripts for video projects and coordinates with videographers.
  • Oversees costs and budgets for marketing projects and supervises SWAP/Co-op students as needed.

The Communications Advisor (CA) works closely with internal clients to understand their marketing goals and collaborate with our design and digital teams to bring a diverse range of projects to life, including comprehensive marketing campaigns, publications, media relations, events, collateral, web, and other digital projects.Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Marketing, the CA will have sound knowledge of communications principles, copy writing, community building skills, and possess strong interpersonal skills. The CA will be part of Langara’s in-house Communications & Marketing team that serves a strategic function to strengthen the Langara brand and enhance the institution’s reputation.Job Description:Duties & Responsibilities:1. Provides strategic marketing advice to internal clients to help them achieve their marketing communications objectives, including developing and implementing integrated marketing communications plans.2. Oversees complex marketing communications projects, from the initial kick off meeting with clients, to writing the creative brief, creating and managing the workback schedule, coordinating approvals, and overseeing production, ensuring budgets and deadlines are met. Writes and implements take to market plans to rollout out communications initiatives to target audiences. Maintains project dockets following the unit's workflow process and systems.3. Writes and edits news releases, public service announcements, publications, brochures and advertising copy, web content, social media posts, and other written communications.4. When approved by the Director or Manager, works with individual units to develop visual identity systems within the College's master brand.5. Ensures that all work complies with relevant legislation, including CASL, FIPPA, PIPA, copyright, and protects the College's official and registered marks.6. In keeping with College policies on purchasing, researches and recommends potential vendors for projects, including printers, promotional items, and media buying. May negotiate rates on behalf of clients and works with suppliers to complete production.7. Participates in the review of College publications/materials to ensure that they comply with established brand standards.8. Coordinates development, production, and distribution of printed material.9. Provides writing and editing support to instructional and administrative departments, as required.10. Liaises and supports the development of communications for organizational units or committees, as well as fundraising initiatives.11. Creates and implements marketing plans to promote a wide range of College events, including major events such as convocation, welcome week, and employee recognition. Develops event collateral materials, signage, identifies and engages suppliers, and supervises volunteers.12. Works with Langara's Institutional Research department or external suppliers to conduct market research as needed. Analyses web and social media data, digital advertising click through rates, and other analytics to assess outcomes of marketing projects and report back to clients.13. Storyboards/writes scripts for video and multimedia projects. Liaises with Digital Content Producer/external videographers to review rough cuts, secure client approvals, and finalize video projects. Creates project shot lists for still photography shoots.14. Utilizing media database tools such as Meltwater, creates media target lists, writes and distributes media advisories, releases, and PSA as required. Monitors and creates reports of earned media.15. Supervises SWAP students, volunteers, and Co-op students as required. May supervise Communications Assistants.16. Oversees marketing project costs, ensuring work is completed within approved budgets.17. Performs other related duties and/or projects as required.Qualifications Required:EducationSuccessful completion of an advanced diploma in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or equivalent.
