Job Overview

Communications Electronics Installation Technician

Crown is seeking a highly motivated and skilled technician to join our floating electronics installation crew. This is a 100% travel position with assignments across the United States directed by FAA regional boundaries. The role requires a craftsman capable of installing complete communications facilities, including electronics, antennas, cabling, grounding, and surge protection. The ideal candidate will be a self‑starter with strong electronics knowledge, able to handle physical installation tasks and demonstrate leadership potential as experience grows.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in a floating communications installation crew and potentially lead.
  • Travel 100 % of the time to various job sites across the U.S.
  • Operate VHF and UHF radios, and set up Radio Control Equipment (RCE).
  • Execute Telco requirements (Commercial Telco, RCL, Field Cable, Fiber Optics, etc.).
  • Take initial electronic baseline readings and generate required paperwork, including FRDF, per FAA Technical Handbooks.
  • Interface with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic and Technical Operations during radio installations.
  • Follow engineering packages and perform field modifications as needed.
  • Provide guidance and support to other installation and construction crew members on‑site.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management, and stakeholders.
  • Understand electrical and electronic circuitry and execute wiring and grounding tasks.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment within the scope of radio replacement and technical refresh projects.
  • Perform comprehensive installation tasks such as mounting antennas, running and terminating coaxial cables, installing and testing grounding systems, implementing surge protection, basic electrical wiring, assembling equipment racks, securing cable trays and conduit, and ensuring infrastructure supports the communication system.
  • Work in geographic isolation and create solutions for unique on‑site challenges.
  • Attend pre‑installation meetings, remove and dispose of existing communications equipment, coordinate frequency outages, install new radio racks and radios, perform electronics testing procedures, and handle government‑furnished equipment (GFE).

Typical work days: Monday–Thursday, 6 AM – 4:30 PM.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or completion of a 2‑year training/certification program relevant to electronics/communications, plus at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience installing and maintaining VHF and UHF ground‑to‑air communication equipment.
  • Familiarity with FAA National Airspace System (NAS) communications, cabling, and equipment.
  • Setup capability for Radio Control Equipment (RCE).
  • Knowledge of Telco requirements (Commercial Telco, RCL, Field Cable, Fiber Optics, etc.).
  • Proficiency in taking baseline readings and generating paperwork, including FRDF, per FAA Technical Handbooks.
  • Strong reading skills for schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office (Word, Excel).
  • Physical ability to stand, sit or crouch for extended periods; lift up to 75 lbs; move 350 lbs with hand truck or pallet jack; perform work under tight time restraints.
  • Good physical condition; able to pass a physical fitness assessment if required.
  • Ability to climb and work at heights exceeding 60 ft.
  • Team player able to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Access to good credit for travel reimbursements.
  • Must obtain a security clearance; no legal offenses in last 5 years; honorable discharge if military.
  • U.S. Citizen with valid driver’s license.
  • Available to work non‑standard hours as needed.

Rate Range
