About the Role

We are actively seeking a Common Core Specialist – Milling, a 24‑month fixed‑term position that provides dedicated Common Core competency validation and Site Signing Authority support for Milling operations. The role strengthens site training governance, supports required workplace observations, verifies performance objectives, and delivers defensible competency sign‑offs for modular training requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the designated Site Signing Authority, ensuring all competency sign‑offs meet Ministry requirements, training standards, and internal expectations.
  • Validate trainee competency through workplace observations, confirming skills can be performed safely, consistently, and independently before sign‑off.
  • Document and maintain complete, accurate, and audit‑ready training records, including observations, assessments, and competency decisions.
  • Defer or refuse sign‑off where competency, documentation, or observation requirements are not fully met; identify and require necessary remedial actions.
  • Conduct and support timely field observations and competency assessments to ensure consistent training progression, accurate documentation, and alignment with site and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to trainees, supervisors, and trainers to support consistent skill development and readiness.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Training, and leadership teams to align training delivery, competency expectations, and operational requirements.
  • Identify training gaps and recommend improvements to programs, tools, and processes to strengthen compliance, consistency, and program integrity.
Key Skills & Knowledge
  • Post‑secondary education in milling, industrial operations, trades, training, or a related field is considered an asset; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Train‑the‑trainer, evaluator certification, or equivalent internal training is considered an asset.
Relevant Experience
  • Demonstrated mill operational experience, with sufficient depth to support competency‑based training and assessment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Common Core or specialty modules within the applicable area, including performance objectives, workplace observation requirements, and competency validation expectations.
  • Experience supporting or participating in training programs, field‑based learning, or competency validation processes is required; experience in a trainer, supervisor, or mentor capacity is considered an asset.
Skills & Strengths We Value
  • Ability to evaluate practical skills, validate competency evidence, and make sound, defensible sign‑off decisions within the assigned scope.

  • Future‑Ready Savings – Registered Pension Plan with company match, plus TFSA & RRSP options.
  • Shared Success – Employee Share Purchase Plan with company match.
