Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Buildings team in Canada East Division seeks a Mechanical Commissioning Specialist Engineer to lead the Building Commissioning Service Line in Halifax. The role involves project delivery and continued development of the service line at a provincial level, focusing on commissioning mechanical and electrical building systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver commissioning services for mechanical HVAC equipment, including multiple technologies.
• Prepare commissioning documentation such as test scripts and final reports.
• Support general contractors, electrical/mechanical contractors, and clients.
• Coordinate with division management and conduct business development in the Halifax region and throughout Nova Scotia.
• Assist in proposal delivery and general project delivery in Nova Scotia.
• Conduct project activities related to building commissioning, including LEED‑related, retro‑commissioning, and re‑commissioning projects.
• Perform extensive site visits for commissioning services in the Ottawa area and potentially other Eastern Canada locations.
• Attend meetings and coordinate with other disciplines and team members at Stantec.
• Act as liaison/coordination with clients, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Assist with proposal delivery activities for building commissioning projects.
• Interact with the commissioning management team to develop strategies and business plans for service line expansion.

Capabilities and Credentials

• Strong familiarity with construction documentation, including drawings and specifications.
• Interest in buildings, commissioning, energy management, sustainability, and construction.
• Ability to divide time between on‑site activities and office administrative duties.
• Willingness to travel extensively for one‑day site visits primarily in Eastern Ontario and ability to work on low‑rise rooftops, outdoors throughout the year.
• Strong understanding of building mechanical controls, especially HVAC units.
• Commitment to high‑quality work and client partnership.

Education and Experience

Mechanical Engineering diploma/degree with a minimum of 10 years of commissioning or design experience in mechanical HVAC systems design or maintenance (University diploma preferred but not essential).

Typical office environment with computers; field work requires travel and potential exposure to inclement weather.
