The Nuclear Business Unit at AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Commercial Manager who thrives on teamwork with a strong desire to deliver for both internal and external clients.

We are looking for someone who has experience working in the Engineering, Manufacturing, or Construction sector and enjoys a variety of work, including the delivery of commercial solutions and improvement initiatives. With a desire to work in the Nuclear and Power sector, you'll enjoy approaching things in different ways to find the best possible fit - you like making improvements and consider different approaches to fit whatever is the current context.

This role offers a significant platform for personal development and the opportunity to get involved in a variety of exciting projects covering a broad spectrum of clients, including Nuclear New Build, Major Plant Refurbishment, Operations, and Decommissioning. We are seeking people who are keen to develop to their full potential to the mutual benefit of the individual, the team, and the company, and who are committed to growing successful partner and client relationships.

In an evolving energy market, where the business is growing, we are seeking a Commercial Manager who can be at the forefront of leading and supporting the business in achieving its goals while managing and balancing business risk. The role requires access to confidential information to support medium and long-term financial analysis and planning.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Collaborates with proposal teams in the proposal strategy development and in the preparation and review of proposals, commercial contracts, subcontracts, and other agreements.
  • Act as the point of contact to Client for contractual matters. Must be able to deal with the client on delicate matters tactfully and professionally while protecting all AtkinsRéalis’ interests.
  • Liaise with and provide guidance on contract matters to the project team at all levels.
  • Review, negotiate, and draft project commercial agreements, including confidentiality agreements, purchase orders, contracts, consortium agreements, joint venture agreements, and having regard for their practical application and inherent risk.
  • Identifies and analyses potential commercial risks and liabilities associated with proposals, ongoing projects, and supplier agreements.
  • Interfaces with internal stakeholders as required, including technical, risk assessment, legal, cost estimating, insurance, bond, taxation, treasury, and finance functions.
  • Provides commercial support in contract administration and in the preparation of narratives and entitlement documentation and the resolution of claims.
  • Works closely with the procurement manager to ensure flow down of the prime contract terms to other related contracts on ongoing projects.
  • Provide presentations and workshops, as required, to the employees with respect to contract administration including corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines, change, and delay management.
  • Assists the project teams in the understanding and interpretation of the contract language.
  • Attends steering committee meetings between AtkinsRéalis and other partners and prepares minutes of meeting recording agreed decisions and actions going forward.

Why choose AtkinsRéalis as an employer?

Because we offer:

  • The opportunity to work on various major projects for internal and external clients.
  • An exciting environment where work-life balance is important.
  • A wide array of learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive pay, flexible benefits, an employee share plan, and a defined contribution pension plan.
  • A work environment focused on health and safety.

The ideal candidate:

  • University degree in Law, with 5-7 years’ experience in a similar role in construction and/or alternative dispute resolution.
  • Formal training in contract law or experience in contract management.
  • Experience in Intellectual Property Management.
  • Candidates admitted to the Ontario Bar will be preferred.
  • Experience in commercial governance, bidding, contract management, and project delivery.
  • Proven ability to organize, set priorities, and handle multiple complex tasks at one time consistent with corporate processes.
  • Experience in communicating with various stakeholder groups from internal project staff to clients, subcontractors, and the executive team.
  • Understanding of client and client organizations, objectives, personnel, and environments.
  • Proven track record with claims management and dispute resolution on major projects.
  • Superior communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take the initiative.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information at both detail and summary level and the ability to interact with executive management and operational level staff.
