Kidco Construction is seeking a skilled Excavator Operator to join our Earthworks and Commercial Excavation team in Calgary. The role focuses on precision excavation and fine finish work on commercial foundations, parkades, and basements across Calgary and surrounding areas.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of excavator experience in commercial projects, performs safe, accurate work around utilities and structures, and contributes to a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of excavator operating experience in commercial construction environments.
• Experience with detailed excavation around concrete structures, footings, and foundations.
• Ability to read and interpret site drawings and excavation plans.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate 20-35 ton excavators on commercial projects.
• Perform precise excavation, grading, and fine finish work to design specs.
• Excavate basements, parkades, foundations, and site developments.
• Work around concrete, utilities, and existing infrastructure with care.
• Follow grades and elevations provided by site supervisors and laser personnel.
• Maintain accurate excavation depths, slopes, and tolerances.
• Load trucks and coordinate with crews and operators.
• Complete daily pre-trip inspections and required documentation.

Job description

Kidco Construction is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented, and experienced Excavator Operator to join our Earthworks and Commercial Excavation team.

This position focuses on precision excavation and fine finish work on commercial construction projects, including commercial basements, parkades, structural excavations, building foundations, parking lots, and other commercial developments throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.

The successful candidate will have experience operating excavators around existing structures, concrete foundations, shoring systems, utilities, and other heavy equipment while maintaining tight tolerances and prioritizing safety.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate excavators ranging from 20-35 tons on commercial construction projects.
• Perform precise excavation, grading, trimming, and fine finish work to design specifications.
• Excavate for commercial basements, parkades, foundations, retaining walls, parking lots, and site development projects.
• Work safely around concrete structures, columns, foundations, underground utilities, and existing infrastructure.
• Follow grades and elevations provided by site supervisors, grade crews, and laser personnel.
• Maintain accurate excavation depths, slopes, and tolerances.
• Load tandem trucks and other hauling units efficiently and safely.
• Coordinate and communicate with supervisors, survey crews, grade checkers, truck drivers, and other equipment operators.
• Perform daily equipment pre-trip inspections.
• Complete timesheets and required job documentation.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Work safely in congested commercial construction environments with multiple trades and equipment operating nearby.
• Adhere to all company and site-specific safety requirements.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Minimum 3 years of excavator operating experience in commercial construction environments.
• Experience performing detailed excavation and fine finish work around concrete structures, footings, foundations, parkades, and commercial developments.
• Ability to excavate safely and accurately in tight workspaces with minimal room for error.
• Strong understanding of grades, elevations, slopes, and excavation tolerances.
• Experience working around underground utilities and existing infrastructure.Ability to read and interpret site drawings, excavation plans, and utility locates.
• Strong awareness of surroundings and ability to safely work around personnel, equipment, and structures.
• Reliable, safety-oriented, and quality-focused.
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract preferred.
• Ground Disturbance Level 2 (201) Certification required. Training will be provided for qualified candidates.
• Ability to work year-round.
