Johnson Electric in Mississauga, ON is seeking a Coating Process Engineering Specialist to develop, optimize, and sustain Atmospheric Plasma Spray processes for fuel cell and automotive products. The role focuses on process engineering, coatings, and data-driven manufacturing improvements on the production floor.

You will support quality, production, and maintenance teams, document parameters, and lead trials to boost coating performance and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in a relevant engineering discipline with a manufacturing focus.
  • 1+ year of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with atmospheric plasma spray or coating processes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and sustain Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) processes on the production line.
  • Provide daily technical support to Production, Maintenance, and Quality for APS operations.
  • Document and maintain process parameters and work instructions for APS and related operations.
  • Plan and execute trials to improve coating performance, yield, and throughput.
  • Analyze production data and recommend data-driven improvements.

Your expertise in process engineering, advanced coatings, manufacturing optimization, and data analysis will be crucial in improving coating performance, product quality, production throughput, and operational efficiency.Why You’ll Love Working Here:Employee Well-being: Focus on employee health and well-being with various wellness programs and initiatives.Sustainability Commitment: Work for a company committed to sustainability and making a positive impact on the environment.Inclusive Workplace: An inclusive and diverse workplace where all employees are valued and respected.Technological Leadership: Be part of a company that is a leader in its field, driving technological advancements.Work-Life Balance: Flexible working hours and policies that support a healthy work-life balance.What You’ll Be Doing:Develop, optimize, and sustain processes related to the Atmospheric Plasma Spray lineProvide daily technical support to Production, Maintenance, and Quality for APS operations and related fuel cell processesEstablish, document, and maintain process parameters and work instructions for APS, deburring, grit blasting, and inspection operationsPlan, coordinate, and execute trials and experiments to improve coating performance, yield, throughput, and costAnalyze experimental and production data and provide data-driven recommendationsSupport Advanced Product Quality Planning activities for fuel cell and automotive productsParticipate in internal and external design and process reviews, providing technical input on manufacturability, coating design, and process capabilitySupport the manufacture, inspection, and approval of prototype and preproduction componentsLead and support root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions for process and product issuesConduct capacity analyses and implement improvements focused on scrap reduction, cycle-time reduction, productivity, and waste eliminationDevelop test methods and inspection criteria for coating thickness, adhesion, surface condition, and other critical characteristicsEnsure appropriate gauges and measurement systems are selected and used effectivelyTrain operators, technicians, and other team members on APS processes, equipment operation, work instructions, and new proceduresSupport equipment troubleshooting and maintenance activities in collaboration with Maintenance and EngineeringProvide process engineering support to other powder metal automotive components and manufacturing processes as requiredEnsure compliance with Johnson Electric’s Quality Management System, EHS policies, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001 requirementsPerform other related duties as assignedWhat We’re Looking For:Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering disciplineAt least one year of relevant experience in a manufacturing environmentStrong hands-on aptitude and willingness to spend significant time on the production floor working with equipment and operatorsAbility to work with process equipment and interpret technical drawings and specificationsStrong understanding of fundamental engineering principles and their application to manufacturing problemsStrong data-analysis skills, including the ability to design experiments, interpret results, and make data-driven decisionsWorking knowledge of continuous improvement tools, including 5S, root cause analysis, PDCA, and basic Lean conceptsProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPointStrong communication, collaboration, documentation, and problem-solving skillsBonus Points If You Have:Experience with thermal spray processes such as plasma spray or HVOFExperience with fuel cell components, advanced coatings, or powder metallurgyExperience in automotive or advanced manufacturing environmentsExposure to Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologiesExperience using AutoCAD or other CAD softwareExperience supporting APQP, prototypes, preproduction builds, or new product launchesFamiliarity with manufacturing and quality software systemsHow to ApplyApply online at www.johnsonelectric.com.
