Job summary

Brock University is hiring a Co-op Transition Advisor to enhance student success by developing and implementing strategies for co-op retention and engagement at both Undergraduate and Graduate levels.

The role collaborates across academic and administrative departments, coordinating recruitment events, engagement strategies, and outreach efforts while supporting students through their co-op journey in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as Psychology, Communication, or Education.
  • Completion of Mental Health and First Aid training.
  • Experience with co-op programs and/or academic advising or student affairs.
  • Knowledge of the Brock University co-op experience and course calendar, prerequisites, and sequencing.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, databases, web applications, BrockDB, and social media/content creation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the yearone co-op replenishment strategy and onboarding for new admits.
  • Provide individualized support to co-op students for co-op and academic progression.
  • Conduct case conferences with SWAC for students with special needs or accommodations.
  • Foster partnerships with on-campus partners for student success.
  • Identify and connect students with resources and services.
  • Lead student recruitment events for Co-op (OUF, Open Houses, etc.).
  • Develop yearone co-op engagement events, programming, marketing and outreach.
  • Oversee outreach to incoming co-op students and co-op events.
  • Supervise student staff for communications and marketing activities.
  • Incorporate student success stories into communications and marketing materials.

About the Role:

The Co-op Transition Advisor plays a pivotal role in enhancing student success by helping develop and implementing comprehensive strategies to improve co-op students’ retention and engagement at both Undergraduate and Graduate levels. The Advisor is responsible for collaborating with various University academic and administrative departments and services to create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourage student progression and success through their co-op journey.

  • Manage the yearone (1)internal co-op replenishment strategy including promoting to eligible students,developingand updating admission rubric, assessing eligibility and onboarding new admits for a seamless transition into co-op;
  • Provide individualized support to co-op students to ensure they are on track with both their co-op and academic progression and sequence;
  • Conduct regular case conferencing with SWAC to review co-op students with special needs and/or accommodations needs;
  • Foster partnerships withon campus partners (i.e.,Academic Advisor, SWAC, Brock International, Student Affairs, Learning Services) for early intervention and support to co-op students’ success at Brock;
  • Identifyand provide guidance and support to co-op students facing challenges and barriers, connecting them withappropriate resourcesand services;
  • Act as thelead person for all student recruitment events for Co-op (i.e.,OUF, Open Houses, Smart Start, etc.);
  • Lead the development of yearone (1)co-op student engagement strategyincluding events, programming,marketingand outreach;
  • Oversee the planning and execution of our outreach to incoming co-op students, Co-op Kick-off event, program specific onboardingsessionsand co-op celebration events for all currently enrolled co-op students;
  • Oversee and supervisethe student staff to carry out communication and marketingplansto enhance co-op students’ engagementincluding regular newsletter and Co-op-on-the-go booth;
  • Identifyand integrate co-op student success stories and testimonials into communication and marketing collaterals(i.e.,websites,social media posts,publications,presentations, etc.);
  • Provide regular report on student retention trends,identifyat-risk populations to help measure the effectiveness oftheretention initiatives;
  • Stay current and proficient with various technology platforms such as DB Brock, Sakai,CareerZoneand Office 365 suits (i.e.,Teams, Planner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Managecontent creation and update to Co-op website and marketing collaterals focusing onstudentsengagement.

This position may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or operational needs.

Key Skills and Experience:
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as Psychology, Communication, or Education;
  • Completion of Mental Health and First Aid training;
  • Experience with co-op programs and/or academic advisingor student affairs;
  • Knowledge of the Brock University co-op experience and understanding of the course calendar, course offerings, program requirements, prerequisites, and course sequencing for co-op programs;
  • Knowledge of applicableUniversity rules and regulations, and departmental policies (i.e. University Academic Accommodations for Students with Accessibility needs Policy);
  • Proficiencywith computers including MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook,Powerpointdatabases, web applications, BrockDB, and social media platforms/content creation tools (i.e. Instagram, Linkedin, Canva, etc.);
  • Patience, empathy, compassion, and understanding with the ability to communicate sensitive information or feedback tactfully and diplomatically;
  • Excellent customer service orientation with the ability to build credibility quickly andmaintainlong-term relationships;
  • Proven ability to build andmaintainstrong professional relationships at all levels of the University and with diverse student populations;
  • Strong active listening, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously and independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Innovative, flexible, and adaptable with a commitment to teamwork and integrity.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
  • A backgroundor experienceincounselling or psychologyfield.
Salary and Total Rewards:

Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($62,115 - $99,384); Target Hiring Range: $62,115-$64,000

* This is a Fixed term contract position that includes:
