Job summary

Black & McDonald Limited invites students to join their team as Co-Op placement opportunities. You will gain hands-on learning and mentorship while contributing to project documentation, client meetings, and the development of technical solutions.

Eligible programs include Electrical, Estimating, Mechanical, Construction, and Instrumentation fields. Start January 2027 for 4, 8, or 12 month placements, with compensation between $21 and $24 per hour.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed degree/diploma in related field.
• Available January 2027 for 4, 8, or 12 month Co-Op placements.
• Strong academic record and passion for your field of study.
• Previous work or volunteer experience showing teamwork and enthusiasm.

Responsibilities

• Participate in maintenance and creation of project documentation (safety, materials, change orders, quantities, productivity).
• Learn to interpret project contract documents and drawings.
• Participate in client meetings and interpreting requirements.
• Assist the Service Division in creating technical solutions for clients.
• Understand project scheduling and planning processes.
• Assist with equipment and material sourcing.
• Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for information and pricing.
• Assist with additional estimating tasks.
• Learn to prepare quantity take-offs for estimating stage.
• Assist with invoicing and supporting documentation.
• Participate in activities in both office and off-site jobsite environments.
• Take on additional opportunities to support related projects.

• Assist with invoicing and preparing supporting documentation, tracking and request forms
• Participate in activities in both a traditional office setting as well as off-site jobsite
• Any additional opportunities in related projects to solidify the learning experience

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong academic record with a passion for your field of study
• Previous work or volunteer experience highlighting your attitude, collaboration, and enthusiasm to continually grow

Completed or pursuing a degree or diploma in a related field. Examples include:

Expected compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $21-24/hour dependent on education level, skills and experience.
