Job summary

Black & McDonald Limited in Vancouver seeks an Electrical Project Coordinator to support overall project performance from start to finish. You will manage cost, schedule, safety, and quality, keeping the Project Manager informed of progress and impacts on plans.

The role requires close collaboration with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to deliver projects on time and within budget. The position requires 2–3 years of Electrical Project Coordination experience in construction, familiarity

Qualifications

• 2–3 years in electrical project coordination
• Experience with utilities construction is a plus
• Strong contract management and procurement knowledge

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders including clients, consultants, and partners
• Assist in planning schedules and milestones; monitor progress against timelines
• Ensure work complies with HSE legislation and company policies
• Maintain project records and documentation
• Support document control and archive project activities
• Assist in budget analysis, cost projections and project changes
• Coordinate construction schedules and milestones to meet deadlines and budget

Black & McDonald’s BC Utilities team is growing! The Electrical Project Coordinator is located in Vancouver and reports directly to the Project Manager/Operations Manager.

The Electrical Project Coordinator assists with overall project performance and status from start to finish and in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget. They manage cost, schedule, safety, and quality, and keep the Project Manager well-informed of progress, discrepancies, questions, and any impacts on project plan and schedule. Duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including Black & McDonald team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community, while keeping them informed of relevant information
• Assist in planning and preparing schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines
• Comply and ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable HSE legislation and company policies and procedures, contract requirements, and Black & McDonald policies and procedures
• Maintain departmental and network databases as required to ensure records are kept current and accurate.
• Participate in document control, archive project activities, deliverables, tools and findings for use in future projects.
• Assist the project team to ensure project objectives, schedule, budget, cash flow, policies, procedures, and performance standards are met in accordance with company policy and contract specifications
• Coordinate with the project team to plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and execute project(s) on time, within budget, and in accordance with corporate policy
• Assist in preparing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Assists in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts
• Track, interpret, analyze, and report on project data

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

A Degree or Diploma in the following would be considered an asset:

• Electrical Engineering Degree
• Red Seal Journeyman Electrician or Electrical Technologist Degree
• Project Management
• Construction Engineering Technology
• Construction Management

The following certifications/designations are considered an asset:

• PMP designation
• Gold Seal Certification
• Construction safety certifications

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 2-3 years as an Electrical Project Coordinator in the construction industry
• Project experience in utilities construction is considered an asset

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Proficient knowledge and understanding of:
  • Contract management
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Blue print reading
  • Procurement
  • Project structural design interpretation
  • Financial statements – read and comprehend
  • Established construction practices, procedures and techniques
  • Applicable local and provincial labour codes
  • Managing / leading union and non-union staff
  • Business operations processes
  • Organization and time management
• Previous experience working with ERP applications, i.e. JD Edwards (Oracle), SAP, etc
• Previous experience working with scheduling software's (MS Project or Primavera P6)
• Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
• Willing and able to travel to sites around British Columbia
• Valid BC Driver’s License

The expected annual salary range for this role is between $70,000 and $85,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package.
