Job summary

Equitable, a Canadian mutual company, seeks a co-op in Internal Audit for a hybrid Waterloo, ON placement January–April 2027. You’ll grow analytical skills, risk assessment, and control knowledge while supporting IFRS and other regulatory compliance through testing and remediation efforts.

You’ll work in a collaborative team, develop process improvements, and build client relationships as part of the Internal Audit department. The program follows school guidelines for compensation.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Co-op post-secondary program in Business, Accounting, or Internal Audit.
  • Knowledge of business risk and financial controls.
  • Knowledge of general accounting concepts, standards, and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and test company controls to ensure IFRS/OSFI/CLHIA compliance.
  • Assess root causes of deficiencies and their potential impact.
  • Develop and recommend process improvements to remediate risk.
  • Assess management remediation strategies and process improvements.
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with audit clients.

Work Arrangements:

This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than theminimumrequirement and there may be some roles that arerequiredto work in our office more than theminimumrequirement.

This role is open only to students currently enrolled in a formal co-op program through their post-secondary institution.

What you’ll do:
  • Identifying, analysing,and testing key company controls and processes to ensure the Company is compliant with IFRS,OSFI, CLHIA,and other regulations including the implementation of new accounting standard
  • Applyingsoundjudgement toidentifythe root cause of deficienciesidentifiedand assess their potential impact.
  • Applyingsoundjudgement and business knowledge to develop and recommend process improvements that remediate risk.
  • Applyingsoundjudgement to assess management remediation strategies and process improvements.
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with audit clients.
What you’ll bring:
  • Currently enrolled in aCo-op post-secondary program focused onBusiness, Accounting,or Internal Audit,or have relevant experience for the position.
  • Knowledge of business risk and financial controls.
  • Knowledge ofgeneral accounting concepts, standards,andpolicies.
  • Solid written and verbal communicationand interpersonalskills.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude, analyticalskills, andproficiencyin prioritization and critical thinking.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient inMicrosoft Exceland Microsoft Word.
