Job summary

Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. in Selkirk, MB seeks an Environmental Safety Intern to join our environmental and safety teams.

You will update procedures, assist in audits, and support spill and waste operations while gaining hands-on experience with a global steel producer. The program targets individuals with at least two years of a biosystems/engineering degree, strong academic record, leadership, and the ability to learn quickly, with eligibility to work in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree in Biosystems/Engineering with Environmental Science focus.
  • Strong academic record (GPA 2.5 or higher preferred).
  • Demonstrated leadership in student organizations or activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support updating and managing environmental and safety procedures.
  • Assist with spill procedures, spill response items, and audits.
  • Support waste and recycling procedures and prepare presentation slides.
  • Assist in environmental and safety projects and safety orientations.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be working with our Environmental and Safety Teams. Following on-the-job training and orientation, the candidate may:

  • Update & manage procedures
  • Update spill procedures and spill response items
  • Update waste and recycling procedures; prepare powerpoint slides and assist in audits
  • Manage smaller environmental & safetyprojects
  • Perform safety orientations
Requirements:
  • Have completed at least two years of adegree from a recognized university in a Biosystems / Engineering discipline specializing in Environmental Science
  • Record of high academic achievement (Minimum GPA 2.5; preferred GPA 3.0 or higher)
  • Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the Canada without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with great organizational qualities
  • Ability to work independently and be a fast-learner
