The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical

The team of cloud solutions architects works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions, including on-premise options like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployment solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL. Managers oversee deployment, testing, and handover, and participate in presales to advise clients technically.

The manager is responsible for line management, career development, representing the team technically, and fostering collaboration. Active participation in presales is also expected.

Location

This is a home-based role managing a team within your time zone.

Daily Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of engineers across presales and professional services
• Resolve customer issues by promoting our technologies and acting as a trusted advisor
• Work remotely within a single major time zone
• Mentor, coach, and provide career feedback
• Monitor team health indicators
• Implement disciplined engineering processes
• Represent your team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers
• Promote best engineering and organizational practices
• Plan and track progress on goals and projects
• Participate in leadership team collaborations

Candidate Profile

• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph)
• Practical Linux and networking experience
• Experience in technical presales
• Dynamic, proactive, and communicative personality
• Excellent English communication skills
• Passion for developing and mentoring talent
• Leadership and coaching experience
• Organized with a track record of delivering high-quality results
• Strong academic background
• Willing to travel up to 40%

Additional Skills

• Spanish or French language skills preferred
• Python knowledge
