The team works with a broad spectrum of technologies, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and advanced open source platforms like MLops and data platforms. As Canonical expands into new industries such as telco, finance, healthcare, and media, we develop tailored open source solutions.

The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical

The team comprises cloud solutions architects working directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions, including on-premise options like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployable solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL. Managers oversee hands-on deployment, testing, and handover, and participate in presales to advise during sales processes.

The manager is responsible for line management, career development, representing the team technically, and fostering collaboration both internally and with customers. Active participation in presales is expected to meet quarterly goals.

Location

This role is remote, managing a team within your time zone.

Daily responsibilities include:

1. Leading and developing a team of engineers across presales and professional services.
2. Solving customer problems by promoting our technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
3. Working remotely within a single major time zone.
4. Mentoring, coaching, and providing career feedback.
5. Monitoring team health and implementing disciplined engineering practices.
6. Representing your team to stakeholders, partners, and clients.
7. Developing and promoting best engineering and organizational practices.
8. Planning and tracking progress on goals and projects.
9. Participating in leadership team collaborations.

Candidate profile

• Knowledge of cloud technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph).
• Practical Linux and networking experience.
• Experience in technical presales.
• Proactive, engaging personality with strong communication skills in English.

• Organizational skills to ensure timely, high-quality results.
• Strong academic background.
• Willingness to travel up to 40% for events and meetings.
