The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute is the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital– one of Canada’s largest learning and research hospitals. We are proudly affiliated with the University of Ottawa and supported by The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. With more than 2200 scientists, clinician investigators, trainees and staff, and total revenues of more than $120 million, we are one of the foremost Canadian hospital-based research institutes. Our research spans more than a hundred different diseases, conditions, and specialties with an overall focus on translating discoveries and knowledge into better health.

Job Description
The Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU) is an outpatient clinic seeking a Clinical Research Specialist to support its patient-facing research operations. Located on the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital, the CIU is a 12-bed clinical research facility specializing in the execution of procedurally complex clinical and pharmacokinetic studies across all phases of drug development trials, from Phase I to Phase IV. The Clinical Research Specialist, reporting to the CIU’s Program Manager, will coordinate assigned clinical studies and provide clinical nursing care to patients enrolled in research protocols. This role involves collaborating with the study team to implement protocol-specific procedures from screening to study completion, as well as providing ongoing education to research participants and ancillary departments to ensure compliance with study protocols. The specialist will also assess adverse events and use their knowledge, skills, and judgment to determine dose-limiting toxicity, maximum tolerated dose, and disease response in collaboration with the Principal Investigators.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Handling questionnaires and collecting samples, including processing and shipping samples according to clinical protocols.
•Implementing and coordinating all aspects of data collection and source documentation in accordance with Tri-Council policy statements and ICH/GCP guidelines.

The position requires on-site work at The Ottawa Hospital's General Campus from Monday to Friday during standard daytime hours, with occasional extension into the early evening, which will be determined in consultation with the incumbent and the CIU’s Program Manager. If you are interested in a hands-on clinical research role that is challenging, stimulating, and provides autonomy within a collaborative team, this could be the role you are looking for.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
•Bachelor’s degree in a health science-related field
•RN Certification
•Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification or willingness to obtain certification within 6 months of hire

•Superior organizational and communication skills
•Ability to work independently and as a team member
•Attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of data and protocol requirements
•Evidence of training certification in Tri-Council Policy Statement -2 (TCPS-2) and the International Conference on Harmonisation – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP)
•Evidence of training in Food and Drug Regulations, Division 5, and/or Device Regulations
•Computer skills: MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications:
•3-5 years of previous clinical research experience
•Previous experience treating oncology patients, such as the administration of chemotherapy
•CCRP certification from SoCRA
•Knowledge of IATA shipping regulations and basic laboratory procedures
•Bilingual in French and English
