This offer is conditional upon successful completion of a Criminal Record Check. The clinical research coordinator will support the Lunken (https://ibdcentrebc.ca/lunkenlab/) Lab at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (https://www.bcchr.ca) to undertake studies which focus on nutrition and the gut microbiome for adult and pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and submitting research ethics applications, creating, organizing, and implementing study documents and procedures. They will also contact patients, explain the goals and details of ongoing clinical studies, obtain consent for participant enrollment, and follow up with participants to ensure adherence to study procedures. Additionally, they will ensure that samples and data are properly collected and stored.
The successful candidate will report to Dr Lunken and the senior project coordinator in the lab to fulfill research-related responsibilities in a professional and ethical manner. The research assistant will also interact with members of the Lunken Lab, research staff at BC Children’s Hospital as well as the GI Research Institute, nurses, administrative staff, psychologists, dietitians, and the Director of Operations as well as IBD patients. Additionally, the research assistant will have contact with internal and external collaborators, UBC finance departments and ethics boards. Office space at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute will be provided. Flexibility in work hours may be required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Accuracy, timeliness, and sound judgment are required to maximize effectiveness of the research program. The individual will need to exercise independent judgment and feel comfortable working with a large and diverse team including physicians, nurses, allied health personnel, trainees, and administration staff. Exercising poor judgment and lack of appropriate consultation with other team members can adversely affect the productivity of the research program and might lead to concerns about research credibility or compromise the team’s ability to secure funding for future projects or engage in multi-site projects.
The individual will work independently under the direction of Dr Lunken as well as the senior project coordinator in the Lunken lab.
The individual will provide supervision and guidance to graduate students, undergraduate co-op or directed studies students, volunteers, and other members of the research team.
