Job summary

Canada Life is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist in a hybrid role with 1+ days per week in the Toronto, ON or Winnipeg, MB offices. The candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada and will contribute to prescription drug management and formulary development.

You will evaluate evidence, develop prior authorization criteria, support PLA negotiations, and collaborate with a medical board to inform drug listing decisions.

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and licensed to practice in a province of Canada.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance on formulary development through comprehensive drug reviews.
• Evaluate clinical studies, guidelines and health technology assessments to make evidence-based drug listing decisions.
• Develop and maintain Prior Authorization criteria and protocols in collaboration with the Pharmacy Benefits team and Drug Services
• Support the PLA team in their formal negotiations with pharmaceutical companies
• Partner with pharmacists and physicians on our Medical Board, to provide expert opinions on case files related to drug use.
• Using expert drug knowledge, conduct research and analysis, environmental scans, and analysis on various drug policy topics and clearly articulate findings
• Assist in the development and maintenance of reference material related to drug policy.
• Provide client-specific drug support and recommendations
• Maintain professional competence and expertise in the pharmacy profession through the on-going review of current pharmacy and medical literature, professional continuing education as well as through contact with professional peers.

Canada Life currently has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Pharmacist. The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada . This is a hybrid role requiring 1 + days per week in the Toronto, ON or Winnipeg, MB office.

Prescription drug benefits are a major component to any employee benefit program. The Clinical Pharmacist will provide pharmacy expertise that will allow Canada Life to develop the best products and create the best solutions to assist our customers and deliver superior case management.

Under the guidance of the Assistant Vice President, Drug Claims Strategy, the successful candidate will join a team of pharmacists dedicated to prescription drug management. Canada Life is at the forefront of evidence-informed, private payer decision-making and has pioneered the application of this new philosophy to private drug plans. The Clinical Pharmacist is a key contributor to the development and utilization of this philosophy, providing industry-leading expertise.

The Clinical Pharmacists at Canada Life work closely with the Product Listing Agreements (PLA) Team to support drug plan listing decisions and PLA negotiations. Clinical Pharmacists play a critical role in these processes by critically appraising clinical evidence and providing expert analysis to inform decisions related to Canada Life's strategic drug products and product listing agreements.

What you will bring

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and licensed to practice in a province of Canada
• Minimum 2 years related experience. Clinical practice experience in a hospital or primary care setting an asset.
• Formulary review/management and health technology assessment experience an asset
• Experience conducting critical appraisal of clinical trials
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a variety of roles to build collaborative partnerships across function and the business.

The base salary for this position is between $102,000 - $152,000 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
