Cleaner Operator

Redpath Sugar, located on Toronto’s historic downtown waterfront, has been a part of Canada’s heritage for over 160 years. As the oldest food-related trademark in Canada, recognized nationwide, Redpath Sugar is part of ASR Group, the world's largest cane sugar refiner.

Overview

The position involves maintaining cleanliness in the refinery and packaging areas, and returning scrap product to raw materials. Entry-level cleaners earn $24.70/hour, with opportunities to bid into other manufacturing roles starting at $34.89/hour after successful probation and when new positions are available.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Maintain cleanliness of packaging and process building floors and equipment.
2. Remove dust from process areas.
3. Clean equipment and structural parts following specific procedures.
4. Handle scrap sugar bags weighing up to 20 kg (40 kg with team lift).
5. Operate powered hand trucks and floor washers.
6. Perform sanitation in compliance with GMP, Food Safety, and Health & Safety standards.
7. Report unsanitary practices to the Sanitation Supervisor.
8. Keep accurate records for sanitation activities.
9. Assist and train other associates as directed.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform routine tasks.
• Ability to operate cleaning and packaging equipment.

Experience & Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in manufacturing or industrial settings is preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning processes and chemical safety.
• Understanding of WHMIS and safety practices.
• Ability to work well in teams and independently.
• Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
• Effective communication skills.

Physical Effort

• Regular physical activity, including lifting up to 20 kg.
• Ability to stand for long periods, bend, kneel, reach, and climb stairs.
• Good vision and hand coordination for handling products and tools.

Work Environment

• Exposure to allergens and possibly humid or slippery conditions.
• Potential exposure to high temperatures and noise, requiring PPE.
