Job summary

Okanagan College in Vernon, British Columbia, is seeking a dedicated Custodian to perform routine cleaning and maintenance across classrooms, offices and common areas. You will help keep facilities safe, clean and welcoming, supporting the campus community.

The role requires a Custodial Worker certificate and 6 months to 1 year of related experience, with shifts 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM. This is a non-regular on-call appointment, with emphasis on teamwork and safety.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school (Grade 10) and a Custodial Worker certificate.
• Over 6 months and up to and including 1 year related experience.
• Ability to handle hazardous materials with training provided.

Responsibilities

• Cleans classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways, and other surfaces by: wet mopping, washing, scrubbing, striping, seal waxing and polishing floors, removing stains on carpeting and performing shampoo procedures when required, vacuuming and dusting.
• Maintains furniture and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe manner.
• Maintains building security.
• Maintains a stock of janitorial supplies for assigned area.
• Removes snow from steps and walkways.
• Maintains current skillset by attending instructional courses provided by the College.
• Performs other duties related as required.

Your Opportunity

Skills and Abilities

• Skilled in the safe use of related equipment and cleaning materials
• Must maintain furniture and equipment in an orderly and clean manner
• Able to perform work of a routine nature with minimal or no direct supervision
• May be required to handle hazardous materials from time to time (the College will provide training)
• Must have ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and exercise courtesy
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties
