Job summary

Okanagan College is seeking a Custodian for routine cleaning and maintenance, supporting classrooms and offices in a campus setting. The role involves evening shifts and on-call coverage, with emphasis on safety and cleanliness across facilities.

The successful candidate will hold a Custodial Worker certificate and have 6 months to 1 year of related experience, plus ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy college environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of Secondary School (Grade 10) and a Custodial Worker certificate.
• Over 6 months up to and including 1 year related experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways and other surfaces using wet mops, washing and scrubbing.
• Strip, seal, wax and polish floors; remove stains from carpeting and shampoo when required.
• Vacuum, dust and maintain furniture and equipment in a clean, safe manner.
• Maintain building security and stock janitorial supplies for the assigned area.
• Remove snow from steps and walkways; attend instructional courses to update skills.
• Perform other duties related as required.

Schedule: Monday to Friday; 3:00PM - 10:30PM - Shifts may vary based on operational need.

Your Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Custodial Services, provides routine cleaning and maintenance service and performs other related duties as required

Functions and Duties

1. Cleans classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways, and other surfaces by:

   • wet mopping;
   • washing, scrubbing;
   • stripping, seal waxing and polishing floors;
   • removing stains on carpeting and performing shampoo procedures when required;
   • vacuuming, dusting.
2. Maintains furniture and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe manner.
3. Maintains building security.
4. Maintains a stock of janitorial supplies for assigned area.
5. Removes snow from steps and walkways.
6. Maintains current skillset by attending instructional courses provided by the College.
7. Performs other duties related as required.

Education and Experience

Completion Secondary School (Grade 10), and a Custodial Worker certificate.

Over 6 months and up to and including 1 year related experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Skilled in the safe use of related equipment and cleaning materials
• Must maintain furniture and equipment in an orderly and clean manner
• Able to perform work of a routine nature with minimal or no direct supervision
• May be required to handle hazardous materials from time to time (the College will provide training)
• Must have ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and exercise courtesy
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties
