Job summary

Okanagan College is seeking an on-call Custodian at the Penticton campus to support daily cleaning and maintenance tasks. Under supervision, you will clean classrooms, washrooms, offices and common areas, perform floor care, and assist with snow removal and safety practices.

Eligibility includes a Grade 10 and a Custodial Worker certificate, with 6 months to 1 year related experience. The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and physical fitness within a BCGEU Support Staff bargaining

Qualifications

  • Completion of Secondary School (Grade 10) and a Custodial Worker certificate.
  • Over 6 months to 1 year of related custodial experience.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways and other surfaces.
  • Performs floor care including wet mopping, washing, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing and polishing.
  • Removes stains and shampoos carpets as required.
  • Maintains furniture, equipment and building security; stocks janitorial supplies.
  • Removes snow from steps and walkways.
  • Attends training to maintain current custodial skills.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Bargaining unit: BCGEU Support Staff

Type of appointment: Non-regular On-Call

Schedule: Monday to Friday; 3:00PM - 10:30PM - Shifts may vary based on operational need.

Your Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Custodial Services, provides routine cleaning and maintenance service and performs other related duties as required

Functions and Duties
  1. Cleans classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways, and other surfaces by:
    • wet mopping;
    • washing, scrubbing;
    • striping, seal waxing and polishing floors;
    • removing stains on carpeting and performing shampoo procedures when required;
    • vacuuming, dusting.
  2. Maintains furniture and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe manner.
  3. Maintains building security.
  4. Maintains a stock of janitorial supplies for assigned area.
  5. Removes snow from steps and walkways.
  6. Maintains current skillset by attending instructional courses provided by the College.
  7. Performs other duties related as required.
Education and Experience

Completion Secondary School (Grade 10), and a Custodial Worker certificate.

Over 6 months and up to and including 1 year related experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Skilled in the safe use of related equipment and cleaning materials
  • Must maintain furniture and equipment in an orderly and clean manner
  • Able to perform work of a routine nature with minimal or no direct supervision
  • May be required to handle hazardous materials from time to time (the College will provide training)
  • Must have ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and exercise courtesy
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties
