Job summary

Okanagan College in Vernon is seeking a Custodian to perform routine cleaning and maintenance under the supervision of the Manager, Custodial Services. This on-call, non-regular evening position supports a vibrant campus community.

You will clean classrooms, offices, washrooms and hallways; strip and wax floors; stock supplies; and help maintain building security and safety in a respectful, teamwork‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Completion Secondary School (Grade 10), and a Custodial Worker certificate.
• Over 6 months and up to and including 1 year related experience.

Responsibilities

• Cleans classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways and other surfaces by wet mopping, washing, scrubbing, stripping, seal waxing and polishing floors; vacuuming, dusting.
• Maintains furniture and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe manner.
• Maintains building security.
• Maintains a stock of janitorial supplies for assigned area.
• Removes snow from steps and walkways.
• Maintains current skillset by attending instructional courses provided by the College.
• Performs other duties related as required.

Your Opportunity

Functions and Duties

   - wet mopping;
   - washing, scrubbing;
   - stripping, seal waxing and polishing floors;
   - removing stains on carpeting and performing shampoo procedures when required;
   - vacuuming, dusting.
2. 2. Maintains furniture and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe manner.
3. 3. Maintains building security.
4. 4. Maintains a stock of janitorial supplies for assigned area.
5. 5. Removes snow from steps and walkways.
6. 6. Maintains current skillset by attending instructional courses provided by the College.

Education and Experience

Skills and Abilities

• Skilled in the safe use of related equipment and cleaning materials
• Must maintain furniture and equipment in an orderly and clean manner
• Able to perform work of a routine nature with minimal or no direct supervision
• May be required to handle hazardous materials from time to time (the College will provide training)
• Must have ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and exercise courtesy
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties
