Job summary

Wesley is seeking a Part Time Cleaner to help maintain clean, safe spaces across our Hamilton and Halton sites. You will perform general housekeeping, follow health and safety guidelines, and complete cleaning checklists as scheduled.

This unionized, part-time role offers minimum 20 hours per week at a rate of $20.50 per hour, with opportunities to contribute to a welcoming environment for residents and staff while supporting Wesley's mission in the community.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma with janitorial training.
• Two years of cleaning experience.
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse program with marginalized persons.
• First aid and CPR training.
• Flexibility to work day, evening and weekend hours as scheduled.
• Must be able to travel between locations in Hamilton and Halton.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning and sanitizing of facilities to health and safety standards.
• Complete daily/weekly/monthly cleaning checklists.
• Operate cleaning equipment and handle supplies and chemicals safely.
• Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments with changing conditions.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures for hazards and waste disposal.
• Interact with staff, visitors, and clients in a welcoming and professional manner.
• Work with volunteers and staff in a team approach and participate in training.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Part Time Cleaner who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.

The Part Time Cleaner is to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and neatness of Wesley’s buildings in Hamilton and Halton, including common areas, program spaces, client bedrooms, and outdoor grounds. The Cleaner performs general housekeeping activities within the established guidelines for health and safety, infection control, and quality management.

Our cleaning services are 7 days a week, including holidays, and we are seeking candidates with flexible availability.

This is a unionized, part-time permanent position. This position offers minimum 20 hours per week at a rate of $20.50 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform cleaning and sanitizing of residential and office facilities, ensuring all areas remain clean, orderly, well stocked, and compliant with organizational health, safety, and operational standards while providing a welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
2. Complete routine and detailed daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning checklists, special cleaning requests (e.g. deep cleans) and maintain accurate cleaning logs and records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
3. Use various types of cleaning equipment (such as mops, brooms, and vacuums, etc.), supplies and approved chemicals to complete required tasks.
4. Perform repetitive physical tasks (including standing, walking, bending, pushing, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 30 lbs.) while maintaining safe work practices and adhering to all health and safety requirements.
5. Work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, adapting to changing conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, wet surfaces, and other environmental factors.
6. Adhere to all health and safety procedures related to the identification, handling, reporting, and disposal of hazards, including chemicals, sharps, pests, airborne contaminants, and biohazardous materials.
7. Interact with other staff, visitors, and clients accessing the programs in a welcoming and professional manner, following policies and procedures.
8. Work with volunteers and staff in a team approach and participate in all mandatory training and team meetings.
9. Follow all Wesley policies and procedures and report issues to the next line of supervision in a timely manner.
10. Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

1. Minimum high school diploma with further courses in janitorial, hygiene and infection control an
2. Two (2) years’ experience in cleaning roles maintaining similar facilities
3. Sensitivity to work in a culturally diverse program and the ability to work with marginalized persons
4. First aid and C.P.R. and Nonviolent crisis intervention training.
5. Flexibility to workday, evening and weekend hours as scheduled
6. Must be able to travel between various locations in Hamilton and Halton
